Favourite Beers (27 replies)

Small Heath Alliance

Favourites I've had this year include Krombacher, Warsteiner, and Budvar. Nice european Pilsners.

Anything from Northern monk, Brewdog punk ipa, Lagunitas ipa, Brooklyn lager and Lawless larger from purity.

Got to mention Lidls Perlenbacher pils. Great value for money.

People should try beers from their local breweries and other smaller independents. Up here we have off the top of my head, Hadrian brewery, Mordue, Allendale, Anarchy, Tyne Bank, North East Brewing, Wylam - quite a few others too. They all make great beers. I’m sure there are excellent West Midlands ones, some of long standing.

Session beers are low ABV.so you can drink loads without getting too plastered.

Something tells me we wouldn’t have signed Halilović when we did if we didn’t have cash to spend. Maybe more hopeful than anything.

Football on Amazon Prime. (19 replies)

I’ve never watched a game on it before and read on here recently that the quality is shite.

I’ve just put the vile game on to see how it looks and the still or slow images look good but the motion blur is absolutely awful.

Are all of their games this bad? (Not them lot I mean the Amazon picture quality).

It depends what you are watching it on - I've been watching on a gaming monitor - the advantage being it has 144hz refresh rate and with it set to fastest response and zero latency, anti blur off (strangely) - picture is perfect, no lag, no tear, no motion blur. Top end tv's should be ok but anything under then yeah - you'll struggle.

Edit - if I try and watch with free sync turned on then it's horrible, which is the tv/monitor trying to 'add' frames.

Hogan's touch count is very poor in games. Juke's is actually higher. Both have a low pass completion %.

Leko's completion rate is worse.

It’s what Hogan does without the ball that helps so much though.
Definitely.

I love a good stat, but a forward not touching the ball much, often says something about the rest of the team to be honest.

I mentioned it at the time but the Bristol City game that had the ridiculously zoomed out camera angle... Читать дальше...

Referees who loved being the centre of attention (15 replies)

Small Heath Alliance

Going back to the 70s we've always had referees who thought that people had come to see them rather than the game itself. Step forward Clive 'The Book' Thomas. (I don't think we ever won a game with him in charge). Fast forward a few years to Paul 'Danno's the man' Damson, and Jeff 'It's all about me' Winter. Those three are the ones that come to mind straight away. How would they cope in today's era?

What say you?

wannabee bailey

The tradition of attaching a job/profession to someones name came from Wales, so that in a village where lots of people had the same name (Jones, Evans, Thomas), they could distinguish between them in conversation. As such, it would be "Thomas The Book" in the case of Clive Thomas.

Unless you happened to be Hugh Johns, the old commentator, who insisted on calling him "Clive The Book."

But then Hugh Johns was a breed apart in so many ways.

Back then... Читать дальше...

I have looked at the highlights several times and cannot for the life of me see why the penalty was given.

Anyone have a clue?

The Kieftenbeld-Sunjic partnership (23 replies)

Small Heath Alliance

Isn’t very good.

They were brilliant against Reading, but both are so inconsistent.

Most importantly, both are cack in possession. We’re crying out for someone to control the ball better in the middle of the park and ease the pressure on the team.

McEachran needs to get match fit ASAP. Clayton should come in on Saturday.

Probably just as well to be fair, you throwing a bloke off the top of The Nakatomi Building is probably against HR policy.
