Fix your left Joy-Con connectivity issues and void your warranty in one fell swoop

The Switch has only been out for a couple of days, but the left Joy-Con controller on the new console is already infamous for random connectivity issues. And while Nintendo has recommended a fix that users try and avoid having obstacles between the controller and the console, others have opted to just crack open the Joy-Con and break out some soldering gear to find a more permanent fix.

Yahoo's new chatbot will nag your family for you

With a pending sale of its internet business to Verizon, Yahoo is undergoing one of the more tumultuous periods in its history. Yet somehow it still managed to put out one of the most useful piece of software it’s created in years. Called Captain, the product is an SMS-based digital assistant. It’s designed to use some lightweight artificial intelligence to help family members manage each other’s busy schedules.

The story behind the custom X-Men comics in Logan

Early on in Logan, an olden, beaten-down Wolverine comes across a pile of vintage X-Men comics, dismissing the stories as hyperbolic at best and fabricated at worst. The comics are more than a throwaway gag, though: they propel some of the film’s plot and its questions about heroism and the mythologizing of the past. That is to say, any random Uncanny X-Men comic wouldn’t have worked.

Nintendo’s Joy-Con controllers also work with Windows, Mac, and Android devices

If you picked up Nintendo’s new Switch console this weekend, you’ll be glad to learn that the Joy-Con controllers work well on a Mac, Windows PC, or Android device. French Nintendo fan site Nintendo Actu has been experimenting with Joy-Cons on Windows and Android devices, and software engineer Sam Williams has discovered Nintendo’s controllers also work on macOS.

General Motors sells its European business for $2.3 billion

General Motors has agreed to sell its European business in deals worth $2.3 billion. Peugeot SA will acquire General Motors’ Opel and Vauxhall brands for $1.4 billion, while General Motors’ European financial operations will be jointly acquired by Peugeot and BNP Paribas SA for around $955 million. The Wall Street Journal reports that the deal is expected to close by the end of the year, and it will increase Peugeot’s share of the European car market to make it Europe’s second biggest car maker behind Volkswagen. Pollution kills 1.7 million children every year, WHO reports

Exposure to environmental pollutants kills 1.7 million children under the age of five each year, according to two reports released on Monday by the World Health Organization (WHO). Worldwide, more than one in four deaths among children under the age of five are attributable to environmental hazards such as indoor and outdoor air pollution, contaminated water, and poor sanitation, the WHO reports.

Nintendo, we should try to remember, is a vast international corporation that wants nothing more than to liberate your hard-earned money from your wallet. But hell, if it isn't just slightly more endearing than its competitors. NHS deal with Cera could free up hospital beds by matching patients with carers

Social care startup Cera has partnered with some of the UK's biggest hospitals in a bid to become something similar to an Uber for patients who need carers. The deal will help doctors in London select and request assistance from a pool of trained carers who can help patients with tasks at home, potentially freeing up hospital beds for additional people.
