Aquaman is already the Justice League’s MVP

The Verge

Today brought us a brand new Justice League trailer, and I’m going go out on a limb and say that I’m cautiously optimistic about where the film is heading. Now, let me be frank and say that I don’t think it’s going to be the greatest movie in the world. I still feel burned by the Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad to let myself feel too pumped about this upcoming DC superhero blowout. But this trailer provided me with someone to hang my hopes on:

I fixed Apple’s red iPhone with a $14 screen protector

The Verge

The new red iPhone looks just awesome. Well, the back of it does, anyway. I’ve never been a fan of phones with white bezels. I find them distracting — particularly in sunlight — and have always preferred the “single slab of glass” appearance that a black border gives off. So I was disappointed that Apple went with white on the front of the Product Red iPhone. It wasn’t surprising given that’s what you get with the gold and rose gold iPhones. But Apple hasn’t always done that. The white iPhone 3G and 3GS had a black on the front. Читать дальше...

A VPN can stop internet companies from selling your data — but it’s not a magic bullet

The Verge

Earlier this week, the Senate voted to repeal privacy measures that would stop internet service providers from sharing their users’ internet activity with third parties. Those rules were passed in October, but not only does this vote undo them, it prevents the FCC from reinstating similar rules in the future. This is great for broadband companies, but if you’re one of these companies’ users, what are you supposed to do?

The fictional NASA in Life is run by a bunch of psychopaths and idiots

The Verge

Life, or as stylized during the opening credits, L I F E, is about six astronauts aboard the International Space Station for a fictional “Mars Pilgrim Mission” sometime in the very near future. As you can tell from the title, the film is partly about the meaning of life and partly about a violent space creature who wreaks absolute havoc on the ISS. The creature is a new form of life and its MO is destroying human life. Truly, this is a loaded title.

Sennheiser HD 650 headphones are $180 off, and the week's best deals in tech

The Verge

Have you ever loved something so much that you’ve used it for over a decade? A love as strong as Chris Plante’s love for the Sennheiser HD 650 headphones in his eulogy for the perfect headphones? I honestly can’t say I have. It’s so rare that we hold onto anything for that long, much less gadgets. How many smartphones have you gone through in the last decade?

When is the best time to eat a banana?

The Verge

I don’t consider myself a picky eater, but there are certain things I just can’t swallow. Raw celery, for example, or cilantro. Another one is ripe bananas. When bananas turn bright yellow or start having those hideous brown spots, forget it. I have to throw the whole bunch away. I can’t even stand the smell. The only time I can eat the fruit is when the peel is still greenish — at least at the tips.

Adam Savage on his live science show, cosplay, and ‘promoting the joy in making things’

The Verge

“You guys have to check this out,” MythBusters veteran Adam Savage says to a small group of assembled crew members for his traveling show, Brain Candy Live! Along with Michael Stevens (host of the YouTube channel Vsauce), Savage has been touring the country with a show that is part hands-on science lesson, part TED Talk, and part Blue Man Group-style performance. I’ve followed him onto the stage before a performance, and he’s just pulled a large leaf blower out of a box. It’s an upgrade to the one used in earlier shows on the tour... Читать дальше...

AT&T continues to expand its fiber internet service

The Verge

AT&T announced yesterday that it’s expanding its gigabit fiber internet service in existing markets and bringing new cities onboard. The expansion, which is centered on the 17 existing metro areas AT&T currently operates its fiber service in, means the company will be serving up speeds as fast as 1,000 Mbps (but likely lower than that in realistic usage scenarios) to more than 4 million homes. You can find a full list of available markets here.

Amazon will start collecting sales tax nationwide starting April 1st

The Verge

One of Amazon’s biggest early advantages over brick-and-mortar retailers will disappear for good next month. The company will on April 1st start collecting sales in the states of Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, and New Mexico, according to a report from CNBC. That means Amazon will collect sales tax in all 45 states that require it, ending one of the company’s more drawn-out regulatory fights that the e-commerce giant had resigned itself to losing years ago. (For the record, Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire... Читать дальше...

A USB-powered coaster sure doesn’t feel like the future to me

The Verge

The Jül attempts to solve an issue we likely know well: hot beverages get cold after you pour them and this is unfortunate. Familiar, yes? So the Jül attempts to keep those drinks hot by relying on a heated coaster that’s powered via Micro USB. The mug controls how hot you want to keep your drink, which can also be used to cool down something that’s too hot to consume. Drinks can be kept at between 120 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
