Microsoft introduced its new Fluent Design System today at Build, which it believes will usher the company into the future with a whole new look and feel for its products. The design language focuses on five areas: light, depth, motion, material, and scale. The long wait to be able to stream TV shows and movies from Amazon on the Apple TV is nearly over. BuzzFeed News is reporting that an Amazon Video app designed for Apple’s set-top box will be announced at next month’s WWDC keynote. Recode revealed last week that Amazon and Apple were nearing an agreement that would bring to rest their years-long living room standoff. The Amazon app is likely to launch sometime this summer, though BuzzFeed News notes that the release timeframe could change.

In March, security researcher Chris Vickery made a remarkable discovery. In one of the most notable operations of its kind, he said in a blog post, a group called River City Media had collected about 1.4 billion personal information records, and was using them for spam. “Chances are that you, or at least someone you know, is affected,” Vickery wrote. American Gods, Starz’s new fantasy series about deities and their sex lives, has been renewed for a second season. The news comes just two weeks after the series premiered to rave reviews, and Deadline reports that the new season is expected to launch in mid-2018.

Genius, formerly known as Rap Genius, a platform on which writers and artists can annotate lyrics and “the internet,” which also has an editorial arm, which now describes itself as a media company, is launching a clothing line. It’s called The 1997 Collection, and it’s apparently inspired by pop culture from the year 1997.

Cirque du Soleil has partnered with Microsoft to develop a way for the acrobatic entertainment company to test out stage setups and choreography in augmented reality using HoloLens. A working version of the technology was shown onstage today during Microsoft’s Build conference for developers.

Microsoft hasn’t had a great time with mobile. While we can debate whether or not Windows Phone is finally dead, Microsoft is certainly ready to move on. After missing the mobile boat, Microsoft is now trying to sneak onto iOS and Android devices like a stealthy submarine. We’ve seen the company focus on iOS and Android apps before, but at the Build event in Seattle this week the message is clear: Microsoft is finally being realistic.

One of science fiction’s most famous novels, Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Left Hand of Darkness, is being developed as a limited series, according to Variety. Entertainment studio Critical Content and Limitless executive producer Tom Forman will adapt the book.

Amazon just released the first trailer for its new motorsports documentary series, Le Mans: Racing is Everything. The series, which follows the grueling, 24-hour-long car race outside the tiny village of Le Mans, France, will be available to stream on Amazon Prime starting June 9th.

Verizon will pay $3.1 billion for wireless spectrum holder Straight Path Communications, it confirmed today, giving it access to the kind of frequencies it could build a 5G network around. The communications giant beat out rival AT&T, The Wall Street Journal says, which had offered to buy Straight Path for $1.6 billion in stock.

You can play Minecraft on just about anything. There are versions of the crafting / survival game on consoles, smartphones, and PC. You can even play it in virtual reality. Each version of the game offers something slightly different; the mobile editions are slimmed down but portable, while on PC and console you have a much bigger, more feature-rich world to explore. But, six years after the game first debuted, Minecraft may have finally found its ideal platform: the Nintendo Switch.

Microsoft officially kicked off its Build 2017 event yesterday, but today is the keynote you'll want to pay attention to. While Microsoft focused on the cloud, AI, and its various database and developer offerings yesterday, the software giant will reveal its plans for the future of Windows 10 today.

The team at Lighthouse, a startup out of Android co-founder Andy Rubin’s Playground accelerator, doesn’t see its new hardware product as a home security camera. Instead, they see it as an “interactive assistant.” But Lighthouse, at least at first, will definitely be perceived as another new entrant in the smart camera market.
