The WannaCry ransomware has mysterious ties to North Korea

The Verge

Researchers at Kaspersky Lab have uncovered new evidence linking the WannaCry ransomware code to North Korea. In a post today, the group detailed a segment of code used in both an early WannaCry variant and a February 2015 sample attributed to the Lazarus Group, a Kaspersky-tracked actor tied to the North Korean government. The overlap was first spotted by Google researcher Neal Mehta, and Kaspersky believes the similarity goes far beyond shared code.

HTC’s upcoming U 11 leaks out

The Verge

Back in March, rumors suggested that the HTC 11 would be coming at HTC’s next event on March 20th, but that date came and went with no mention of the device. But now that the specs and a hands-on video have leaked out (spotted by MobileScout), it looks like the HTC U 11 will be released in the coming weeks, if not days. The successor to the HTC 10 has a pretty respectable spec list:

Let Magikarp’s new English theme song win your heart

The Verge

Magikarp doesn’t have a whole lot going for it: it’s utterly useless in battle, isn’t especially cute, and just kind of splashes around like an idiot. The fact that it can transform into the incredible Gyarados might be its only truly honorable quality. But there’s one thing that can’t be denied: despite all its faults, even though Magikarp is such a loser, it’s also somewhat endearing. Endearing enough to write a song about it!

Facebook’s new research tool is designed to create a truly conversational AI

The Verge

Most of us talk to our computers on a semi-regular basis, but that doesn’t mean the conversation is any good. We ask Siri what the weather is like, or tell Alexa to put some music on, but we don’t expect sparkling repartee — voice interfaces right now are as sterile as the visual interface they’re supposed to replace. Facebook, though, is determined to change this: today it unveiled a new research tool that the company hopes will spur progress in the march to create truly conversational AI.

The company will also roll it out via an over-the-air update for units that have already shipped, according to Pulse News Korea. The assistant will let users search for recipes and weather information with their voice. This definitely makes more sense than having to rely on the 21.5-inch LED touchscreen while in the kitchen.
