Apple is reportedly working on a dedicated artificial intelligence chip that would power AI-related tasks on mobile devices, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The chip, which may be called the Apple Neural Engine, would be used to offload tasks that require sophisticated algorithms related to facial and speech recognition and augmented reality tasks that rely heavily on computer vision. If you’re in the market for a Bluetooth accessory, there’s a good chance you should consider waiting until next year. The two biggest smartphone manufacturers — Samsung and Apple — are moving rapidly toward Bluetooth 5. The Galaxy S8 is already there and the next Galaxy Note and iPhone are also expected to adopt the technology.

For two whole weeks, an all-electric car held one of the most coveted titles among auto manufacturers: the NIO EP9 had become the fastest car around the Nürburgring. But today, British manufacturer McLaren has let out that its hybrid P1 LM — the street-legal version of its track car, the P1 GTR — has broken the EP9’s record by two seconds and the Lamborghini Huracán Performante’s time by almost nine. Google seems to be rolling out a new feature in search results that adds a “Personal” tab to show content from private sources, like your Gmail account or Google Photos library. The addition of the tab was first reported by Search Engine Roundtable, which spotted the change earlier today.

Chipotle Mexican Grill today announced that it has identified the malware that was responsible for the credit card hack earlier this year. Alongside the news, it also released a new tool to help customers check whether the restaurant they visited was involved. When pressed by The Verge, Chipotle did not disclose the exact numbers of restaurants affected, but said “most” locations nationwide may have been involved.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin's secret airship will be used for humanitarian missions, but it will also serve as a giant RV in the sky for his friends and family, according to The Guardian. Citing sources familiar with the project, the report says Brin wants to use the aircraft to “deliver supplies and food on humanitarian missions to remote locations,” but also as a “luxurious intercontinental “air yacht” for [his] friends and family.”

After a few days of teasing, Ubisoft has officially unveiled the next Far Cry with a debut trailer. The new open-world game will shift the setting to Montana and introduce a new cast of characters, including a religious doomsday cult and resistance force fighting against them. Far Cry 5 will launch on February 27th, 2018 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and will include features like two-player co-op and a map editor.

In Morocco, goats help disperse the seeds of local argan trees by spitting them out. This way of disseminating seeds might actually be more common than scientists have previously thought, according to a new study.

It’s been a bad month for Windows 7 users. The widespread WannaCry ransomware hit mostly Windows 7 machines, and now a new bug has been discovered that will slow down and crash Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCs. Ars Technica reports that the bug allows a malicious website to try and load an image file with the “$MFT” name in the directory path. Windows uses “$MFT” for special metadata files that are used by NTFS file system, and Windows 7 and Windows 8 fail to handle this directory name correctly.

A business school in Paris will soon begin using artificial intelligence and facial analysis to determine whether students are paying attention in class. The software, called Nestor, will be used two online classes at the ESG business school beginning in September. LCA Learning, the company that created Nestor, presented the technology at an event at the United Nations in New York last week.

The Nintendo Switch just got a significant third-party boost: Capcom has announced that it’ll be bringing Monster Hunter XX to the new system. Monster Hunter isn’t the most popular series in the West, but it’s been huge in Japan since the days of the PSP, and it was seen as a major coup for Nintendo when the games eschewed Sony’s PS Vita for the 3DS.
