Huawei spills an eye-searing shade of blue on the Honor 9

The Verge

Honor is releasing its Honor 9 phone in a new "robin egg blue" shade. The turquoise is certainly unique, although I'm not sure whether that's a good thing. We all want our phones to stand out, but this blue makes my eyes hurt a little bit? It's just so bright and so turquoise. I want to put it in an Easter basket. It shouldn't leave the Easter basket.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm is fan service at its finest

The Verge

Life is Strange didn’t need a prequel. Dontnod Entertainment’s time-traveling teen drama was a breakout hit when it launched in 2015, but the developer has been clear that it did not want to return to the story of Max Caulfield and Chloe Price. And so, Life is Strange: Before the Storm — a three-episode arc focusing on a younger Chloe — felt unnecessary.

The Verge

If you’re reading this article, there’s a good chance that you don’t regularly back up your computer. And why should you? After all, getting a laptop stolen or having a hard drive crash is the sort of thing that only happens to other people. Your files are fine, right?

Streaming these 6 TV shows might make you feel better about heading back to school

The Verge

Television has periodically portrayed school as the ultimate evil, a frame for fluffy slice-of-life scenarios, or just as a mundane backdrop to supernatural phenomena. Pop culture is obsessed with telling school stories, from realistic dramas about the ways school can feel like a villains’ den to fantasies that stylize it as a battlefield. Sometimes school is a place where greater social ideas play out via grand metaphors. Sometimes it’s just the occupation that takes up young people’s time when... Читать дальше...

16 science fiction and fantasy books to read this September

The Verge

I took a short vacation to Maine recently, and ended up blowing through Deliliah S. Dawson’s new Star Wars novel Phasma. It’s one of a few recent books exploring the darker side of the franchise, along with Battlefront II: Inferno Squad and Thrawn. Given that one of my regular hobbies is dressing up like a Star Wars villain, this has special appeal to me, but it’s also a good read in its own right — you can read my full review here.

Tinder becomes top-grossing iOS app after letting people pay to see who likes them

The Verge

After years of various revenue models, it looks like the feature people were truly willing to pay Tinder for was the ability to see who exactly swiped right on their profile without swiping right back. Tinder had been testing this feature as part of its paid Tinder Gold subscription tier in select markets for months, but after introducing it in the United States this week, the app rose to the number one spot on the App Store’s top-grossing chart in just one day, reports TechCrunch.

Harmonix's Dropmix is a weird but fun musical mashup card game

The Verge

Harmonix — the studio behind Rock Band and the original Guitar Hero — has long experimented with fusing technology, games, and music. Aside from getting millions of people to play with plastic instruments in their living rooms, the developer released games that made use of Sony’s EyeToy camera, Microsoft’s Kinect motion sensor, and even Apple’s old click wheel iPod. It was one of the first developers to start making games for the Apple TV. Now Harmonix has partnered with Hasbro on perhaps its strangest creation yet... Читать дальше...

Sony is channeling the PS1 era with a trio of new translucent DualShock 4 controllers. A new Star Wars novel traces the mysterious origins of Captain Phasma

The Verge

In the lead-up to The Force Awakens, one particular character caught the eyes of fans: a tall, chrome-clad stormtrooper played by Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie. Captain Phasma was hyped as a silent but menacing Boba Fett-style character, but when the film came out, she only had a couple of minutes of screen time. Fortunately, Phasma, a new tie-in novel by Delilah S. Dawson, provides a much-needed origin story for one of the new Star Wars saga’s most mysterious characters.

The Verge

Soft, spongy, and flexible robots have been a promising field of research for a while now, but they do have some common limitations. They tend to be built for single purposes, and are difficult to customize for new tasks. Enter the modular soft robot — a new design from researchers working at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL).

Razer's new mouse has a clutch for your thumb

The Verge

Before today I didn't know I needed a clutch on my mouse, but now I'm wondering how I ever lived without. Razer's new Basilisk gaming mouse has a customizable clutch for your thumb. It seems to be best suited for actions that are more of a "press-and-hold" kind of a thing than a single "click" moment. Push-to-talk is the first thing that comes to mind.
