Warriors will rest Klay Thompson against Denver

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Anthony Slater: Klay Thompson is out tonight in Denver on the second night of a back-to-back. Warriors currently listing Steph Curry (left shoulder soreness) and Draymond Green (right foot soreness) as questionable. Both played heavy minutes vs Wolves last night.

Celtics, Heat interested in Kelly Olynyk reunion

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Rekindling an old relationship can be a rewarding move, and it appears that desire may be showing itself with the NBA‘s trade deadline a week away. A source close to the Heat tells Heavy Sports the club is interested in a reunion with Kelly Olynyk — and that Miami isn’t his only suitor. The Celtics are also said to be looking at the possibility of re-acquiring the 6-11 floor-spacing big man, who spent his first four NBA seasons in Boston.

Bulls rejecting trade overtures for Coby White?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Contrary to reports and perhaps the court of public opinion, Coby White does have trade value, with league sources saying the Bulls have rejected overtures from rival clubs. Whether that says more about the Bulls’ belief in White or concern with Ball remains a mystery. But with his shooting and improved play, White no longer is merely a trade chip the Bulls can use to tidy their backcourt. Could the way he’s developed this season make the Bulls rethink his future? Might he now be a keeper?

Cavaliers, Mavericks targeting Cam Reddish

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Chris Haynes: ‘So two teams that I’ve heard tied to Cam Reddish, and one team in particular I gotta get your opinion on Stein, but… Cleveland is a team that I was told that has a really good shot at making this deal work, making it happen. The other team? Dallas. What do you have? Again, your backyard… Marc Stein: So look, on the the Mavs I can tell you. The Mavs have tried. The Mavs have tried because the price is only a second-rounder. The problem the Mavs have is they don’t have that five,... Читать дальше...

Will Barton wants out of DC?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Chris Haynes: ‘League sources have informed me that Will Barton, up there in Washington, is open to a change of scenery. He hasn’t collected that many DNPs like Cam Reddish, but he is somebody who feels like it’s time to make a change. It hasn’t worked out and going back to his hometown of DC for some reason he just hasn’t been able to stick in the rotation. He feels like he’s still the player he was, he still thinks he could be still be a prominent player in a reserve role. And I was told he... Читать дальше...

Marc Stein on Matisse Thybulle: 'Sacramento's interest is clear'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Marc Stein: ‘Sacramento’s interest is clear. It’s been a dream for the Kings, nobody on this planet, I don’t care how optimistic they are, thought that Sacramento had a chance to go into the All-Star break with the third seed in the West after 16 straight years out of the playoffs. But we know Mike Brown loves defense, and they have a need for more defense on the perimeter. So, you know, can they pull a deal off? I don’t know. Is Thybulle someone that they’re monitoring? Very much, yes.’

Austin Reaves: 'I love being in Los Angeles, and I love being a Laker'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

It’s also a big contract year for you. What have you thought about your future? Austin Reaves: I don’t really think that far ahead. I’m just trying to win games. I love being in Los Angeles, and I love being a Laker. Kobe Bryant was my favorite player growing up, so getting an opportunity to play for the Lakers is a big blessing.

Austin Reaves on Alex Caruso comparisons: 'We're two totally different players'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

On Twitter, people will mention you with Alex Caruso. What do you think of that? Austin Reaves: Totally different players, but we’re guys that played on the Lakers, and we’re white. We don’t really look athletic. He’s athletic, but I’m not that athletic. I can see why people do it, but we’re two totally different players.

Austin Reaves on going undrafted: 'I didn't feel like there were 60 better players'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

What went through your mind going undrafted on the journey to make your NBA dream a reality? Austin Reaves: I was pissed, to be honest. Obviously, I didn’t feel like there were 60 better players, but the draft’s not all about talent at that moment. It’s about potential and stuff like that, probably after 25 (pick). I wasn’t happy, but I knew I was going to have an opportunity, and that was all it was going to take, someone giving me an opportunity to go prove myself.

Fred VanVleet wants to remain a Raptor?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

A similar line of thinking informs the discussion around VanVleet, although his on-court value and his status as a culture setter going back to the Raptors championship season makes his case different. The belief is that VanVleet wants to remain a Raptor, though fit and familiarity aside, money is a factor there too. “The worst thing that could happen to Fred is to be traded,” said one league insider. “Unless you’re a superstar who is getting the max no matter what, the best way to get paid is by staying with your own team.”

D'Angelo Russell trade noise quieting?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The Minnesota Timberwolves have certainly not ruled out trading D’Angelo Russell, but he has played well in December and January. “He has been a good offensive player for them,” said Zach Lowe on his podcast. “That noise, to me, has kind of quieted. I know there are deals out there that they would do. I don’t think any teams have met those deal points yet.”

Pistons to rebuff all trade inquiries for Bojan Bogdanovic?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

More and more, as the deadline draws near, I hear rival teams saying that they believe Detroit is poised to rebuff all trade inquiries for Bojan Bogdanovic. I was certainly among those who thought it was posturing when Detroit’s reluctance to trade Bogdanovic began to surface many weeks ago, but one league source went so far as asserting this week that the Pistons would refuse to surrender Bogdanovic even if offered that fully unprotected future first-round pick that everyone says Detroit covets. Half the league calling about Bogdan Bogdanovic?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

But league sources say the Hawks have no shortage of trade interest in Bogdan Bogdanovic as well — as in “half the league is calling” type stuff. The 30-year-old guard has a player option for $18 million next season, so most teams would understandably view him as a short-term rental (with the hopes of re-signing him if he opts out). To this point, the Hawks haven’t shown much interest in moving him.

De'Aaron Fox to make the All-Star Game?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

James Ham: All-Star No. 2? There is growing optimism in NBA circles that De’Aaron Fox will also have his name called when All-Stars reserves are announced on Thursday. He put up big numbers once again in this one, scoring 31 points to go with 10 assists and 3 steals.
