On the surface, it would appear to be a no-brainer. No matter the circumstances, it would seem highly unlikely the Milwaukee Bucks would trade Khris Middleton — especially considering his value to a team that just two seasons ago won an NBA championship. He’s an untouchable, right? Well, maybe not. In fact, there are some NBA officials who believe there is a chance the Bucks may move Middleton before Thursday afternoon’s trading deadline.

Multiple sources insist Utah Jazz post player Jarred Vanderbilt is a leading target in the Sixers’ quest to fortify frontcourt depth behind All-Star center Joel Embiid. The 6-foot-9 Vanderbilt is a power forward but has the ability to defend all three frontcourt positions. The Sixers are also in the market for a wing, so Vanderbilt could check two boxes for them.

Along with Vanderbilt, the Sixers have expressed interest in former Sixer and current Pistons reserve center Nerlens Noel. Chicago Bulls reserve center Andre Drummond, another former Sixer, could also be an option if the asking price is right.

Now that Kyrie Irving has been traded, maybe the Nets’ position on not trading Kevin Durant as it really was kind of last summer may change. That is an interesting development that has happened over the last 48 hours since the Kyrie trade from people that I’ve talked to.

The Boston Celtics have been extremely active on the trade market since Brad Stevens took over as president of basketball operations. They seem more likely than not to make a trade of some kind this week considering they’re one of the title favorites this year. The question is, do they make a marginal rotation upgrade or do they swing for something bigger?

Further complicating matters when trying to assess Toronto’s intentions: There were some fresh rumbles this week that it had explored packaging Trent and some level of draft compensation to San Antonio for Spurs center Jakob Poeltl. That’s a move you would make to try to move up the Eastern Conference ladder — not down. The Raptors, for the record, don’t seem to mind the confusion they’re generating.

After frequent mentions in recent weeks of Boston and Toronto coveting the Spurs’ center,  sources say Washington is another team that has registered interest in Poeltl. There did not appear to be a deal match between the Wizards and Spurs as of Wednesday morning, but Poeltl remains one of the key figures to watch in terms of needle-movers at this time.

Nearly a third of the league has expressed exploratory trade interest in trading for Sixers back-to-back All-Defensive player Matisse Thybulle at various points this season. The list includes the Hawks and Kings, per Marc Stein, and Warriors, according to Keith Pompey.
