The 2023 FIBA World Cup is quickly approaching. While we still don’t have the final rosters for most of the National Teams taking part, we have a good idea of who’s going to be balling in Japan, Philippines and Indonesia.

Tee Morant, the father of Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant, is offering advice on decision-making to up-and-coming basketball players amid his son’s own struggles. While speaking at the Up Next Elite Camp in New Orleans, Morant advised the children in attendance to “be mindful of every decision you make,” adding that no one is to blame for Ja Morant’s current predicament except himself. “My son didn’t get in trouble ’cause of people around him,” Morant said. “He got in trouble because of his decisions.”

Patrick Beverley believes that Trae Young should make the roster. Going as far as to compare him to future Hall-of-Fame point guard Stephen Curry. Beverley stated that he considers Young a top player who shares many of Curry’s abilities. “He’s won plenty of games. He’s hit plenty of daggers. He’s reinventing the game. Whatever Steph Curry is leaving over, he’s taking it and running with it. Took his team to the Eastern Conference Finals. He’s won big on the road,” Patrick Beverley said.

The NBA has launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden’s public admonishment of the franchise’s President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey, sources told ESPN. The league office is believed to be pursuing an understanding of whether Harden was portending a 2023-2024 hold out in violation of the league’s collective bargaining agreement — or had been referencing past contract discussions with the organization that might constitute salary cap circumvention, sources said. Embiid has said all the right things publicly, but there has to be some residual fatigue in his entire 76ers experience. Morey is responsible for only the past few years, but in totality, many around the league believe Embiid will ask out sooner rather than later — and that a full rebuild is what Morey is covertly hoping for.

What is Harden trying to get out of this scenario? “Joel Embiid was the MVP last year, correct? … Have you ever heard of someone not wanting to play with an MVP? How could someone want out from playing against the reigning MVP?”

Olgun Uluc: Jock Landale sustained a lateral ankle ligament injury and has officially been ruled out of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, a Basketball Australia spokesperson told ESPN. An MRI cleared him of “any other significant concerns”. Landale will travel to Houston this week to begin his rehab.

Greece is in Team USA’s pool at the World Cup, and the two teams play for real on Aug. 28 in Manila. It would be an uphill battle for the Greeks with Giannis against a deep and cohesive American unit without him, they’ll need to fight just to advance to the second round. “Um, I didn’t even know we played them (again) in 10 days,” Edwards said. “But that’s cool. It should be, it should be a better game.”
