Giannis Antetokounmpo on contract extension: If I don't feel everybody's going for a championship, I'm not signing

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

In a few weeks, he will be eligible for a three-year extension worth about $173 million, but he doesn’t plan to sign one just yet. “The real question’s not going to be this year — numbers wise it doesn’t make sense,” Giannis Antetokounmpo said. “But next year, next summer it would make more sense for both parties. Even then, I don’t know.” He added: “I would not be the best version of myself if I don’t know that everybody’s on the same page, everybody’s going for a championship, everybody’s going... Giannis Antetokounmpo: I don't want to be 20 years on the same team and don't win another championship

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Giannis Antetokounmpo is halfway to his goal of playing 20 N.B.A. seasons, and he said he would like to spend them with one team, the way Dirk Nowitzki, Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan did. “But at the end of the day, being a winner, it’s over that goal,” he said. “Winning a championship comes first. I don’t want to be 20 years on the same team and don’t win another championship.”

Damian Lillard trade talks to pick up once camp gets closer?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat have reportedly had very little dialogue on a Damian Lillard trade despite his trade request coming on July 1st. The expectation among those close to the situation is that talks could pick up once training camp gets closer. The Blazers have not been in a rush to deal Lillard as they hope for an improved offer, but bringing him into camp and potentially the preseason is viewed by some as a risk.

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

NBA fans have made fun of LeBron James for years for being too involved in personnel decisions with the franchises he is a part of. And now NBA legend John Stockton has given his two cents on the matter as well. “I don’t know what it’s like to sit in that front office and have things dictating to you like a plan, and it appears LeBron is,” Stockton said on the DNP-CD podcast. “I don’t know for sure that he is, but it’d be maddening as a teammate to know that you can be expendable for one of his guys that he thinks he needs to play with. Kristaps Porzingis on injury: 'During the training process, it started to hurt'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

“I have an idea where the injury occurred. But an injury develops during a career and then jumps onto the field. During the training process, it started to hurt. There has never been anything like it. I felt that there were no options to achieve the shape I wanted. There was no logic in trying to break my feet,” Kristaps Porzingis concluded.”

NBA executive: There may be a team that goes for James Harden at some point

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

James Harden has made it as far as the NBA Finals, coming off the bench for Oklahoma City in a 4-1 series loss to Miami in 2012. His scoring and shooting numbers fell off in those meetings with the Heat, and the narrative hasn’t been great for the 6-5 guard when it comes to the postseasons since. “There may be a team that goes for him at some point,” one Eastern Conference executive told Heavy Sports. “But he costs you a lot of money, and he can obviously be a major headache when he’s not happy.
