Karl-Anthony Towns had his second straight double-double to help the Dominican Republic get the huge win against Italy 🇮🇹
However, he believes this didn’t come as a surprise. “Was this an upset?”, he asked in the mixed zone 🧐

Really fun game between the Dominican Republic and the Philippines, but Jordan Clarkson fouling out late helps Karl-Anthony Towns and the DR escape with an 87-81 victory. To get out of group play, the hosts will now need to beat Italy later in this round. – 10:09 AM

For Karl-Anthony Towns, a reunion with the Dominican Republic national team for the World Cup is so much deeper than basketball.
It’s about rediscovering the feeling he had on the court as a teenager and reconnecting with “her country, our country.” theathletic.com/4788393/2023/0…8:34 AM

More on this storyline

The Minnesota Timberwolves, after dropping his second straight double-double with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists, entered the mixed zone with an ironic question: “Was this an upset?”. He then went on to explain what he meant. “I thought we wanted to win. We had great things in the second half, that’s what brought us the victory. We did a great job as a team, everybody down the line was amazing”, he added. -via EuroHoops.net / August 27, 2023
On how much this 87-82 win against the Italian national team meant for them, Towns had nothing but great words. “It’s huge, we came here to win. It feels good to know that we are 2-0, we’ve got another one still against Angola. We have to keep fighting and playing well. Thinking about wins, you’ve got to get them all”, the 27-year-old also said. -via EuroHoops.net / August 27, 2023
Against the Dominican Republic, however, Gilas couldn’t get the victory, losing 87-81 against Karl-Anthony Towns and his teammates. Playing against the Minnesota Timberwolves dominant center, Jordan Clarkson had to leave the game earlier than expected, committing his 5th foul with 3:32 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Talking exclusively to Eurohoops, he came back to that outing full of emotions. “It’s just a loss, definitely a tough one because we wanted to win. I ain’t the chance to finish the game, like I said some of that stuff is out of my control. I just gotta not put myself in those situations in terms of fouls, and stuff like that. But I definitely feel like this game is behind us and we gotta go taking these next games, starting with tonight”, Jordan Clarkson said. -via EuroHoops.net / August 27, 2023
