Kyrie Irving talks to father, uses old advice from Kobe Bryant to improve shooting recently

0

Kyrie Irving talked with his father, Drederick, about his shooting mechanics, which included a reminder to get his right elbow properly pointed. It’s a shooting tip Irving mentioned that Kobe Bryant used to tell him, too. “Just get my right elbow pointed. I talked to my dad a few days ago, and he always loves to remind me to keep my right elbow pointed,” Irving said after Friday’s game. “That’s something that Kobe used to tell me as well, just as a reminder. And then just take my time, get my feet underneath me.”

Yes, it’s early. But there’s nothing to suggest any of this is a fluke.

For the 17th time in his career, Luka has produced a 27 pt half. Amazingly 4 of them have come vs LAC (He has 19 inc playoffs w/another 1 vs LAC). You think he likes playing them? 27 for Luka. 20 for Kyrie. 32-2 run for Mavs to take a 77-51 lead. 2nd half soon @971TheFreak – 9:59 PM

Clippers are down 26 at the half in Dallas, which isn’t all that bad if you consider that the Mavs went on a 35-4 run.

After Plumlee’s injury, LAC clearly has used PJ Tucker as its backup 5. Asked Ty Lue how far along Kobe Brown is in his development to where Lue would feel comfortable trusting him, too, to play five. (Why Kobe? W/ his passing, he has ability to be a “play-starter,” ala Mason) pic.twitter.com/crKuTTkk6f8:10 PM

LeBron James will very likely record his 5,000th career turnover tonight.
If you’re looking for the next negative LeBron “record,” there’s a chance he becomes the all-time leader in missed shots this season.
Kobe Bryant has that record at 14,481. LeBron is next at 13,952. – 6:43 PM

More on this storyline

He was referring to when Rodman said during an interview with VLAD TV in September that he and Buss dated for six months, which at the time didn’t sit well with his Lakers teammates, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. “I mean yes, in other words, when my dad [former Lakers owner Jerry Buss] brought on Dennis Rodman to the team it was kind of like, ‘Let’s make sure that we know where he is at all times,’” Buss said, seemingly referring to Rodman’s reputation for being a notorious partier. -via New York Post / November 10, 2023
“So, if it’s about, ‘Hey where are you gonna be tonight? OK, we’re all going to this restaurant, or we’re going to this club, or we’re going to this beach, or we’re going to wherever Dennis is going to be.’ “You could say it was dating to say that it was making sure that I had an eye on him.” Buss made it sound more like a babysitting job than a romance with Rodman. However, he recalled it differently. Rodman brought up Buss when DJ Vlad asked him what it was like playing with Bryant and Shaq on the Lakers in comparison to playing with Michael Jordan on the Bulls. “It was hard because I knew the fact that Kobe and Shaq wouldn’t like me,” Rodman said. “I know because I saw Jerry Buss; he loved me. I used to date his daughter. -via New York Post / November 10, 2023
Irving says that in years past he might have dwelled on his uncharacteristic 43.3% shooting from the field and 24.1% from 3-point range but not now, co-leading with Luka Doncic one of the surprise teams of the young NBA season. “I feel like that’s kind of a cop out,” Irving said of emphasizing individual statistics. “The focus is really on our team wins, our team camaraderie — and how do I make sure I get the best out of my teammates every single night, despite what I’m doing out there scoring-wise.” -via Dallas Morning News / November 10, 2023
