Though Donovan Mitchell didn’t land with the Knicks last offseason, Joe Ingles said he believed the New York native would play for his hometown team at some point in his career. “This is like non-bias, no outside info, I think he’ll play for New York one day, whether that’s sooner or later,” Ingles said. “I think it would be great for New York and I think it would be great for him. Whether or not that actually happens we’ll wait and see.”

Michael Scotto: The 76ers are preparing for Tyrese Maxey to be a max player in the summer of 2024 in free agency, I’m told. I think he could certainly grow into that. He’s a rising star and a potential All-Star-caliber player, whether it’s this year or in the years to come. I think they’ve got to figure out if he’s a point guard. The results with him having the ball in his hands have worked pretty well so far. I certainly think they believe he has a chance to be an All-Star. Thompson suffered a Grade 2 left ankle sprain in July during the NBA’s 2023 summer league. That injury had an estimated two-to-four week recovery timetable. Wednesday’s injury was to Thompson’s right ankle, so it’s not a recurrence of the same issue. In postgame comments, head coach Ime Udoka said this was also a Grade 2 ankle sprain, which could suggest a similar return timetable. Thompson left on crutches, per Brian Barefield of Rockets Wire.
