Joe Ingles: I think Donovan Mitchell will play for the Knicks one day, sooner or later

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Though Donovan Mitchell didn’t land with the Knicks last offseason, Joe Ingles said he believed the New York native would play for his hometown team at some point in his career. “This is like non-bias, no outside info, I think he’ll play for New York one day, whether that’s sooner or later,” Ingles said. “I think it would be great for New York and I think it would be great for him. Whether or not that actually happens we’ll wait and see.”

Former opposing French league on Victor Wembanyama: One contact from Charles Oakley and he goes back to Paris

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Montenegrin coach Zvezda Mitrovic, now on the bench of Turkish Basketball Champions League team Galatasaray, was at the helm of LDLC ASVEL from 2018 to 2020. He had a chance to work with some talented players like Theo Maledon and Matthew Strazel, and faced French prodigy Victor Wembanyama at the start of his professional career with Nanterre 92. He remembers Wembanyama well, but he wasn’t sure he will become what he is today, a generational talent that the whole world is in awe of. “I watched him even when he was a kid. Читать дальше...

Paul George on James Harden pickup: What better story than four Southern California guys becoming champions?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

James Harden is joining a team with three future Hall of Famers in Paul George, Kawhi Leonard and Russell Westbrook in an effort to help the Clippers reverse 52 years of falling short of winning an NBA title, or even reaching the championship round. And funny enough, they all went to high school within 100 miles of one another. “What better story to be told than four Southern California guys doing the never been done before and being champions,” George said. “We’ve got a lot of work to do. But... Читать дальше...

Russell Westbrook on integrating James Harden: I don't know, bro, but it's going to be a process with ups, downs

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Westbrook repeatedly stressed that “it’s going to be a process” with figuring out how the Clippers will integrate Harden along with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, himself and a cast of dependable role players. Naturally, that led to the most important question that will likely determine whether the Clippers have any shot at winning their first NBA championship. What will it take for Harden, Leonard, George and Westbrook to bring out the best in each other during this process? “Give it a break. It’ll... Читать дальше...

Kyrie Irving on Luka Doncic: 'He's going to steadily improve on defense'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

“Ah, man, he’s going to steadily improve [on defense],” Irving said of Doncic’s defensive impact. “Every young player in our league comes in, and I don’t think defense is the first thought in their mind. You have to grow into that role and really appreciate getting stops. Some of the best players in the world, guys are giving that effort that it takes to not only win ball games but to dominate. “I think he’s at that point in his career, and I’m at that point in my career,” Irving continued. “I can speak for a lot of guys in this locker room.

Kyrie Irving: 'I'm doing everything possible to be smart about where my body is'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Irving dealt with a groin injury in preseason that sidelined him from the team’s final two games, and he’s now dealing with a left foot injury. He remains focused, though, working diligently with the Mavs’ training staff to recover fully and maintain his conditioning before returning to play. “[I’m] doing everything possible to be smart about where my body is,” Irving said. “Just taking the necessary steps with our training staff to ensure I stay in shape. One of the worst things is to deal with injuries in preseason... Читать дальше...

Sixers potential targets include Zach LaVine, OG Anunoby, Donovan Mitchell, Bojan Bogdanovic

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Michael Scotto: Some potential targets to keep an eye on for Philadelphia include Zach LaVine, who can spread the floor and OG Anunoby, who is loved by coach Nick Nurse, which I think is important. He offers two-way versatility on both sides of the ball, and the 76ers will have the necessary cap space to re-sign him this summer. Other names Philadelphia will monitor include Cavaliers All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell and Pistons forward Bojan Bogdanovic, I’m told.

Sixers view Tyrese Maxey as a max free agent in 2024

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Michael Scotto: The 76ers are preparing for Tyrese Maxey to be a max player in the summer of 2024 in free agency, I’m told. I think he could certainly grow into that. He’s a rising star and a potential All-Star-caliber player, whether it’s this year or in the years to come. I think they’ve got to figure out if he’s a point guard. The results with him having the ball in his hands have worked pretty well so far. I certainly think they believe he has a chance to be an All-Star. Some think he could maybe be an All-NBA player one day. Читать дальше...

Bulls not trading Zach LaVine anytime soon

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

According to a source close to the situation, the Bulls have no intention of trading LaVine anytime soon, and even if that changes — a big if — it’s unlikely that the 76ers fit the profile of what the Bulls would be looking for in return. But this is the space the Bulls and coach Billy Donovan will have to work in this season, courtesy of the front office’s decision to bring the core of the roster back, despite two-plus years of underachieving.

Giannis Antetokounmpo on big loss to Raptors: 'We can keep on making excuses but that doesn't work in life'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

“It’s a struggle,” the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo said. “OK, we can make excuses – there’s a new player, there’s a new coach, there’s a new coach – we can keep on making excuses and think that it’s going to be OK but that doesn’t work in life. That doesn’t work like that. “You have to figure out solutions and right now our solution is that oh, we have a new player and a new coach and oh, we’re going to be better in Game 40. No. We have to get better. We have to play together. We have to be more clear on what we try to get from offense. Читать дальше...

Draymond Green: 'Last year we had an awful team as far as chemistry goes'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

As the horn went off after the Warriors’ 102-101 win, Green met Thompson for a bear hug. Stephen Curry was in the left corner double fist-pumping the air. Chris Paul gave an emphatic fist pump himself. The bench erupted. After a year of struggle, the joy is back in San Francisco. “Last year we had an awful team as far as chemistry goes,” Green said. “It was hard to come to work. Not fun. So this year you see the joy on guys’ faces when they come into the building. You got guys staying over two to three hours just talking. Читать дальше...

Chet Holmgren: 'I'm gonna have to start by looking at myself and being better on the glass'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The Thunder still outshot the Pelicans 43.2% to 39.2%, which would’ve been effective had New Orleans not taken 102 shots. Zion Williamson’s class on glass went far too long — a monotonous, strangely swole chemist teaching a seemingly uninterested bunch.  “It’s the game of basketball, it’s not a game of ‘throw it off the backboard and see who gets it,’” said rookie Chet Holmgren who finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. “… I’m gonna have to start by looking at myself and being better on the glass.”

Amen Thompson suffers Grade 2 right ankle sprain

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Thompson suffered a Grade 2 left ankle sprain in July during the NBA’s 2023 summer league. That injury had an estimated two-to-four week recovery timetable. Wednesday’s injury was to Thompson’s right ankle, so it’s not a recurrence of the same issue. In postgame comments, head coach Ime Udoka said this was also a Grade 2 ankle sprain, which could suggest a similar return timetable. Thompson left on crutches, per Brian Barefield of Rockets Wire.

Derrick Rose out at least a week

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Derrick Rose, who is out for Wednesday’s game against the Jazz in Utah due to left knee soreness, is expected to miss more time because of the injury. Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins told reporters at Vivint Arena that Rose is expected to be reevaluated in a week. With that timeline, Rose will miss the entirety of the three-game road trip. The Grizzlies’ next game at home is Wednesday against the Miami Heat. Rose has served as the backup point guard through the first four games. He is averaging... Читать дальше...
