Luka Doncic on in-season tournament courts: The Pelicans colors are really bad

0

After his 16-point, 5-of-16-shooting, 8-turnover performance Tuesday, Doncic said the colors on the Pelicans’ court were only part of more concerning issues. “I mean, outside all of the colors the court today was really bad,” he said. “It was really slippery. And then some places the ball didn’t really bounce. So you know, if we’re going to have these courts we’ve got to make sure that it’s a stable court, so you can play on it. Like in Dallas, you know? It wasn’t stable, so we had to change it.”

Fantastic game from Hardaway (He’s OK after taking what looked like a scary hit from Kuzma late in the game). How about the 3 Luka-Lively hook ups late in the 3rd, one prettier than the next. And then Curry, getting extended minutes showing he still has plenty to offer – 10:03 PM

Having some technical issues at Cap One Arena, so Mavs story might be delayed. But they take down the Wizards 130-1117 and after their three losses this season, they’ve won their next games by 6, 18 and 13. Tim Hardaway Jr. with 31. Luka with 26 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds – 9:17 PM

For anyone who wondered which Maverick would step into the void of Irving’s absence, it’s Tim Hardaway Jr. who leads Dallas with 22 points, followed by Doncic with 21.

Game 12. NBA’s version of Groundhog Day, the movie. Didn’t Doncic do this just 24 hours ago in New Orleans?

Interesting note about notion of Brandon Ingram dribbling too much before shooting — he’s the best at it. Player FG% with 7+ dribbles (over 5.0 FGA):
1. BI (60.0%)
2. Haliburton (57.4%)
3. Cam Thomas (56.5%)
And Fox, SGA, Ant, Rozier, Cade, LaMelo, Luka, Steph & Maxey follow. – 3:24 PM

Kyrie Irving (foot) is listed as questionable tonight vs. Wizards due to the injury he’s been managing. He was also listed as questionable for the second game of Mavs’ last back-to-back but played.
Luka Doncic is not on the injury report. – 12:40 PM

Kyrie Irving (left foot sprain) is questionable for Wizards-Mavs on the second night of a back-to-back (Dallas lost in New Orleans).
If both Irving and Luka Doncic play tonight, it would make sense to start Bilal Coulibaly (for the experience alone) to bolster the backcourt D. – 12:35 PM

We’ll likely see Deni Avdija defending Luka Doncic tonight, as Avdija guarded him more than any other Wizards player last year.
Despite the two recent tough losses, Avdija held Mikal Bridges to 2-for-11 FG and Scottie Barnes/Pascal Siakam to 4-for-11 FG. – 11:11 AM

More on this storyline

Chase Hughes: Wes Unseld Jr. says rookie Bilal Coulibaly will get some time defending superstar Luka Doncic tonight in what will be a big test: “He’ll get his chance.” -via Twitter @ChaseHughesNBCS / November 15, 2023
When you think back on the stars you’ve played with in San Antonio, Washington, Dallas and now Oklahoma City, who is the one you will most brag to your kids about? Davis Bertans: “No. 1 is Manu for sure. When they grow up a bit, the one they’re going to know is Luka (Doncic). You probably have to talk about some of the younger players who still play now. It will be Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander) here, maybe. -via San Antonio Express-News / November 14, 2023
Tim MacMahon: Luka Doncic (44 points, 17-21 FG) has his 31st 40-point game of his career. Only two players since ABA-NBA merger have had more before turning 25, per @ESPNStatsInfo: Michael Jordan and LeBron James. -via Twitter @espn_macmahon / November 11, 2023
