Danilo Gallinari: 'As long as my legs are underneath me, I want to play'

0

“As long as my legs are underneath me, I want to play,” Gallinari replied when asked how long he wants to continue playing. “When you love basketball so much, in your head, you want to play until you’re 70, but of course your legs are not going to be there. As long as my legs are there, my mind is always going to be ready to go and be competitive. I just need my legs, and I’ll be good.”

More on this storyline

Despite getting injured playing for his country in FIBA competition, Gallinari still wants to play for Italy in the next Olympics. “Yes, of course,” Gallinari told HoopsHype. “I have never said no to the national team, and I’ll never say no. I’m always available in any role they need me to be in on the court.” -via HoopsHype / November 16, 2023
Gallinari, who was traded to the Wizards in the Kristaps Porziņģis deal, reflected on his lost season with the Celtics on Monday night before falling to his former team, 126-107. “I had the chance to decide to go to a championship team,” Gallinari told The Athletic. “And just like all my career, the timing with injuries has always been terrible. So it was just bad timing. I thought we had the chance to win it. I thought especially during the series with Miami I could have helped a lot. But it’s all in the past.” -via The Athletic / November 1, 2023
However you spin it, Gallinari entering a situation where so much familiarity could have some real benefits, especially at this point in his career. Not only is he in his mid-30s, but he’s coming back from a 13-month recovery from a torn ACL in his left knee. As he aims for a renaissance, he has support going back many years. “I guess it makes you feel more at home and comfortable right away. Comfortable and at home,” Gallinari told Monumental Sports Network. “They know what I can bring to the team and they know how much I can help the team. There are no secrets.” -via monumentalsportsnetwork.com / October 19, 2023
