Austin Reaves on LeBron James: 'I've never really seen him in a bad mood'

0

He’s got his spirit back, too, it would appear. After finishing his 20th season by being swept out of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets and openly contemplating retirement, and following that with a summer in which his eldest son, Bronny James, suffered cardiac arrest, his joy for the game has been unmistakable this season. “The one special thing about Bron is,” Reaves said, “I’ve never really seen him in a bad mood. He’s always got energy. He’s the oldest player in the NBA but still acts like he’s 20 every day.”

LAL have their biggest lead of 8 after LeBron scored to open the 4th Q.
He’s 10 of 14 for 26 points, and Davis is 11 of 14 for 27 points.

AD and LeBron combined for 23 of the Lakers’ 32 points in that frame. AD has 27 points and 9 rebounds — Houston hasn’t been able to guard him near the paint. LeBron 24 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. LA is living at the FT line (15-20). – 11:28 PM

End of 3Q: Lakers 81, Rockets 75.
Anthony Davis (27 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and 1 steal) and LeBron James (24 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 steals) are leading the way, combining for 51 points. – 11:27 PM
Mark Medina @MarkG_Medina
Lakers have a 81-75 lead over Rockets entering the 4th Q. Anthony Davis (27 points) and LeBron James (24) have done a great job with compensating for the Lakers’ poor 3-point shooting (18.2%). – 11:26 PM
Jonathan Feigen @Jonathan_Feigen
Jeff Green with 10 points in his nine minutes. Rest of Rockets bench with four. Would be a good time for other reserves to step up with LeBron taking a season, Lakers up three. – 11:14 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
LeBron, always a great cutter, waited for HOU to double Davis, then sprinted down the lane on the left side to catch a Davis dish for a layup that put LAL up 64-62.

Halftime: Rockets 55, Lakers 49
LA made several surges in the 2nd qtr, but Houston responded each time. LeBron has 14 points, 5 assists and 2 steals. AD has 14 points and 8 rebounds. Austin Reaves has 8 points. Houston’s ball movement and 3PT shooting have been the difference. – 10:41 PM

Houston closes 2Q on a 10-3 run in the final 2:06. LeBron James: 14 points, 5 assists, 2 steals. Anthony Davis: 14 points, 8 rebounds. L.A. shot 20% (3-15) on 3s compared to Houston’s 45% (9-20). – 10:40 PM

LeBron’s getting his left shin worked on after calling for a sub midway through the 2nd Q (which is close to when he typically gets a breather). He’s got 10 points and 5 assists in his 14 minutes, and LAL have struggled when he’s been off the floor. – 10:21 PM

Reddish deserves a lot of credit for LeBron getting to the line here. He stayed with Fred VanVleet on that drive, trapping him under the basket, which led to the awkward kickout that LeBron stole, then drew a foul in transition. AK – 10:20 PM

More on this storyline

And James is reminding himself of why he continues to want to play in the NBA, with his financial future and career accomplishments already secured. “Just trying to push the limit,” he said. “See how far I can take this thing. I don’t know. I mean, it’s me vs. Father Time.” -via ESPN / November 20, 2023
He reminded his teammates he can still get up in the air, finishing a drive with a thunderous dunk midway through the fourth that put L.A. up by seven and caused Houston to call timeout. “They’ve been joking about me, saying that I lay the ball up too much when I got an open lane,” James said with a satisfied smile. “So I’m trying to change that narrative, too.” -via ESPN / November 20, 2023
