Nikola Jokic: 'Our defense is really bad right now'

0

Carrying four defeats in a row away from home, the Nuggets continue a demanding road trip through this week. Up next are the Detroit Pistons on Monday. From there to the Orlando Magic on Wednesday and the Houston Rockets on Friday. “The win would be nice,” Jokic previewed the upcoming game at Little Caesars Arena and went on to required adjustments, “Maybe play a little bit better, get open shots. I think we have been playing a little bit stagnant right now. Maybe a little more movement in defense. Our defense is really bad right now.”

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

Harrison Wind @HarrisonWind
Michael Malone may have found a new pseudo ‘Death Lineup’ in Cleveland.
It features…
– No traditional PG
– Denver’s three best defenders
– Two knockdown shooters
– Nikola Jokic
It also produced this sequence.

LeBron James, 38, is the oldest player in NBA history to record at least 37 pts, 8 asts, 6 rebs, 3 stls on 73% FG.
Joker did it at 27. @DwyaneWade is the youngest at 25.

For @MileHighSports
Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen dominated the game, and the defending champions had no answer for the perfect pick and roll to attack Nikola Jokic defensively.
Then, the big man let his frustration boil over.

Final Rotations for the Nuggets as they lose 121-109 to the Cavs:
Joker let his anger control this one. He gets one of those games every quarter of the season.
Good finish by the bench. Reserves all positive

The bench has been shaky regardless, but Denver’s starters just aren’t crushing teams… – 8:16 PM
Gordon Gross @GMoneyNuggs
Now put Jokic back out there against the bench, or don’t put him in at all. If you want to make a run, Nuggets, this is the time. – 7:49 PM
Bob Finnan @BobCavsinsider
End 3rd Q: Cavs 92, Nuggets 75. Darius Garland has a game-high 22 points. Jarrett Allen had 13 points in the third quarter and single-handily sent Jokic to the bench. – 7:48 PM
Harrison Wind @HarrisonWind
Two straight offensive foul calls by Nikola Jokic — Frustration coming through after he’s taken 1 free throw in 22 minutes tonight. About par for the course this year, unfortunately. – 7:32 PM
Gordon Gross @GMoneyNuggs
Malone really needs to get in the habit of being willing to yell at refs and get a tech when Jokic is getting roughed up. I understand this is a Tony Brothers game, but all the more reason for Malone to get in front of the firing squad rather than leaving it to Nikola. Rough game – 7:32 PM
Cayleigh Griffin @cayleighgriffin
7:32 remaining in the 3rd quarter – Nikola Jokic picks up his 5th foul. It is upgraded to a flagrant foul as he gets Jarrett Allen in the face. JA now gets two free throws…
Cavs lead it, 80-61. – 7:31 PM

Flagrant foul 1 on Jokic. He’s headed to bench with Cavs on top 80-61. – 7:31 PM
Chris Fedor @ChrisFedor
It would seem #Cavs Jarrett Allen is under the skin of Nikola Jokic, who has back-to-back offensive fouls, just received a flagrant foul 1 and is up to 5 fouls now in the game. – 7:31 PM
Duvalier Johnson @DuvalierJohnson
Jokic is so frustrated by the foul calls that he just decided to mail it in on that last play.
Picks up his 5th on that spin move. Play is under review as well. Checking to see if they will give him a flagrant. – 7:31 PM
Bob Finnan @BobCavsinsider
Nikola Jokic picked up his 5th foul with 7:32 left in the third quarter. He threw an elbow at Allen’s head. – 7:29 PM
Ryan Blackburn @NBABlackburn
Allen is taking full advantage of Joker’s unaggressive defense. This game feels over already. – 7:23 PM
Harrison Wind @HarrisonWind
No one has kept to their word more than Aaron Gordon when he said he needed to become a smarter basketball player to better compliment Nikola Jokic.

Third personal foul on Nikola Jokic. – 7:00 PM
Adam Mares @Adam_Mares
Only got 2 possessions of the very intriguing KCP-Strawther-MPJ-Gordon-Jokic lineup and on neither of the possessions did Jokic touch the ball in the half court. – 7:00 PM
Harrison Wind @HarrisonWind
Nuggets might have found something with this lineup: Caldwell-Pope, Braun, Strawther, Gordon, Jokic. No traditional point guard, but two knockdown shooters, great defense, length, and tons of interchangeable parts. – 6:57 PM
Adam Mares @Adam_Mares
I like Strawther and Braun with the starters. Provides shooting, defense, and length next to Jokic and Gordon. – 6:51 PM
