WATCH VIDEO: Gregg Popovich asks fans to stop booing between Kawhi Leonard free throws

Well, this is something you don’t see every day in the sports world.

In fact, we’re confident in saying something like this has never happened before – at least not in one of the major American sports leagues.

On the night before Thanksgiving as Los Angeles Clippers superstar Kawhi Leonard was shooting a pair of free throws amidst a chorus of loud boos – only logical considering the Clippers were in San Antonio facing Leonard’s former team, the Spurs – Hall of Fame head coach Gregg Popovich grabbed the PA (public address) announcer’s microphone and admonished Spurs fan for booing Leonard, telling them to stop because it was classless.

Popovich’s exact words:

Excuse me, for a second. Please stop all the booing and let these guys play. [Booing] has got no class, it’s not who we are. Knock off the booing.

Absolutely bizarre.

Pop’s statement was met with a smattering of applause but even more booing. Leonard’s next free throw actually came with even louder boos raining down on him from the crowd.

Maybe we’ll figure out why Popovich decided to do that after the game. He’ll definitely be asked about it.
