0

Andrew Lopez: Gregg Popovich just grabbed a mic during the middle of Kawhi Leonard shooting FTs and asked the crowd to stop booing. “That’s not who we are.” The booing intensified for the second shot. Crowd here in SA boos Kawhi every time he touches and have done it since left the Spurs.

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

Pop defended Pop, calling his actions regarding Kawhi the “right thing to do….He has done so much for this organization, so there is no need to disrespect him like that. And I guess, it is part of the game, but at the same time, he is a human too. I respect what coach Pop did.” – 11:31 PM

How come Kawhi has been getting booed in SA for five years but Pop grabs the mic for the first such game involving Wembanyama? 🤔 – 11:26 PM

A few thoughts:
1) There should be an age restriction on booing. If you’re old enough to drink and you’re caught booing, yeeerrrr outta here!
2) Since said booing rules are not in place, do what you want. But damn Kawhi left a long time ago.
3) Pop shouldn’t have done that. – 11:20 PM

I know the Clippers are only 6-7
But things are much better with them now compared to Thanksgiving Eve last year when they were getting spanked in Golden State on national TV with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Luke Kennard injured
Just a different trajectory for now. – 11:19 PM

Kawhi: “They’re probably going to boo me the rest of my career…They’re one of the best fans in the league and very competitive. Once I step on this court, they show that they’re going for the other side. When I’m on the streets or going into restaurants, they show love.” – 11:19 PM
Andrew Greif @AndrewGreif
Kawhi on building big leads tonight and then losing them:
“We still got a lot to learn and get better at. You could see at the end of that game we had some careless turnovers, they got some easy looks at the basket, wide-open layups, so we got to buy in and figure that out.” – 11:16 PM
Andrew Greif @AndrewGreif
Kawhi said Spurs fans are “one of the best fans in the league and they’re very competitive and once I step on this basketball court out here they show that they’re going for the other side. When I’m on the streets or going into restaurants they show love, so it is what it is.” – 11:10 PM

Kawhi Leonard on Pop:
“I guess he was aiming it toward me as people told me after the game. At the time I was just in the moment, trying to knock down my free throws.” – 11:10 PM

Paul George on Popovich’s “knock off the booing” message to the San Antonio crowd:

When Gregg Popovich was in LA last month, he continued to speak openly and positively about Kawhi Leonard, especially with the next face of his franchise in place now in Victor Wembanyama.

Asked whether he’d had any conversations with the team’s other stars in Harden, Leonard and George about what each could do to help make the new-look roster’s fit work, Westbrook said “there’s no conversation, just go out and do whatever is best for the team and that’s it.” “I think it’s gonna take time,” said Kawhi Leonard, who played 28 minutes, scoring 21 points. “Everybody’s in a new role. Not just me, the guys that were playing are not playing now. And then the guys that were playing a lot of minutes are playing less minutes so I think he’s getting it. -via Los Angeles Times / November 21, 2023
