Heat not targeting Zach LaVine

0

Another big-time scorer, Chicago’s Zach LaVine, is available on the trade market. But a person in close contact with the Heat front office said Miami has not been pursuing a trade for him, at least as of now. (I would be surprised if that changes.) And that’s a sensible decision, because of several reasons including future flexibility, finances and duplication with Tyler Herro’s skill set. (The Heat isn’t interested in trading Herro for LaVine.)

🚨 New Words 🚨
Why the Knicks shouldn’t trade for Zach LaVine!
“Under the NBA’s new CBA, the goal of front offices won’t just be assembling a competitive roster but, instead, compiling a balanced team that is both talented and affordable…”

The Bulls have been outscored by a 102 (!!!) points in the 317 minutes LaVine/DeRozan/Vucevic have played together this season.
That’s the worst plus/minus by any three-man lineup in the NBA that has logged at least 300 minutes together.
Yikes. – 10:15 AM

That’s that.
Bulls lose 116-102 in Oklahoma City. Can’t overcome another slow start without Zach LaVine.
Coby White scored 23 points (18 in first half) and DeMar DeRozan scored 25 points (21 in the second half).
SGA finishes with 40 points. – 10:25 PM

Final: Thunder 116, Bulls 102.
Spectacular performance by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with 40 points on 11-of-19 shooting with five rebounds and 12 assists.
The Bulls didn’t have Zach LaVine (right foot soreness) and shot 38.6 percent, falling to 5-11. – 10:24 PM

#Bulls won the 2ndQ, but trail OKC 50-39 at half. Coby White has a hot hand, going 6-for-9 from 3-pt range for 18 pts, but not much help. Dosunmu has 8, no other Bulls player has more than 4. Zach LaVine out with a sore foot tonight. – 9:04 PM
Brandon Rahbar @BrandonRahbar
The guy that’s gotta be most upset Zach Lavine is out tonight: DeMar DeRozan.
DeRozan drew the Lu Dort short stick.
He’s 1-8 for 4 points at the half. – 9:02 PM
KC Johnson @KCJHoop
With DeMar DeRozan missing one game for personal reasons, Zach LaVine missing tonight with right foot soreness and Billy Donovan trying 3 different power forwards, this will be the Bulls’ fifth different starting lineup in Game No. 16. – 7:53 PM
Julia Poe @byjuliapoe
Zach LaVine will sit out against the OKC Thunder with a right foot sprain.
Amid trade scrutiny, LaVine said he’s just frustrated not to play: “I try to play through everything. I could care less if it’s looked at or not.” chicagotribune.com/sports/bulls/c…7:32 PM

If I was fishing for clicks and listens I could do an article and podcast about Zach LaVine.
But I’m here to give honest, high quality coverage and there isn’t a single piece of reliable reporting out there linking Charlotte to him. The last thing I’ll add, it make zero sense. – 12:10 PM

In LaVine’s case, you can point to stuff. I don’t love his decision-making all the time. His off-ball defense is messy (even if the on-ball stuff I thought got better last season).
But you can work around those things with the right roster build
IDK, don’t love the phrasing. – 7:21 PM

Zach LaVine (right foot soreness) lands on injury report for first time but he’s listed as probable and typically plays through aches and pains.
Alex Caruso (left toe strain) and Patrick Williams (left finger sprain) also are probable.

More on this storyline

Because the Heat doesn’t want to incur the competitive restrictions of surpassing the second apron next season, and historically doesn’t like being a tax team several years in a row, paying LaVine $45.9 million in 2025-26 — instead of paying Herro $31 million — would diminish the resources available to address other needs. -via Miami Herald / November 24, 2023
The 6-4 combo guard, who gives good effort defensively, averaged 5.6 points and shot 36.4 percent on threes in 67 games and 36 starts last season. This season, he’s averaging 10.0 points and shooting 47.9 percent in 14 games, including four starts. The Heat hypothetically could have interest in Caruso, but I would be surprised if the Heat ever dangled a first-round pick for him. -via Miami Herald / November 24, 2023
Does this team need a shakeup? Alex Caruso: I don’t know. A “shakeup” is so general, too. Like I said, if we win those couple of close games early in the year, who knows how we feel about this and what the questions are that we’re even talking about right now. So a shakeup, I don’t know. Kind of like you said, you kind of got to be an internal optimist with professional sports, especially basketball. You play so many games. And we’re not even 20 percent of the way through the season. I don’t know if shakeup is the right word for it. But definitely just some changes to our daily routine and changes to our daily habits. Like I said, consistency’s been something we’ve talked about. We have to change that from within. -via The Athletic / November 23, 2023
