Jaime Jaquez Jr.: I don’t think that’s unrealistic to get back to the Finals and say our goal is to win it
What are realistic goals for the Heat? Jaime Jaquez Jr.: We’re here to win. We’re trying to get back to the NBA Finals. I think we have a great team this year. We just need to stay healthy. I don’t think that’s unrealistic to get back to the Finals and say our goal is to win it. That’s why you play this game. You don’t play it to get second place.

More on this storyline
Coming into your rookie year, you had to deal with months of Damian Lillard trade rumors. How was it dealing with that? Jaime Jaquez Jr.: Welcome to the NBA. That’s a part of the things you’re going to have to deal with. First offseason, trade rumors, welcome to the league. That’s the job you’re in. I tried to stay focused. I was in Miami and being professional. I’m here right now, so that’s what I’m going to focus on. Stay present and in the moment. Whatever happens will happen. Look on the bright side and enjoy it. -via HoopsHype / November 26, 2023
What’s it been like now that those rumors have passed and you’ve been in Miami? Jaime Jaquez Jr.: It’s been great. I love Miami. This is where I wanted to be. I’m very happy that I’m here and helping contribute. That’s the biggest thing. I’m able to contribute and feel like I’m helping us win. -via HoopsHype / November 26, 2023
What do you think of the stigma that four-year college guys have a lower ceiling compared to younger prospects? Jaime Jaquez Jr.: Speaking for myself, I don’t think I’ve hit my maximum potential yet. People can think that. I’m just going to keep playing my game. Basketball is basketball. I think everyone can grow no matter how far they are. There’s always so much to learn. I think that’s very close-minded to think that. You can have your development in the pros or college. It’s just about timing. I learned a lot of things in college. I feel like guys who went to the league very early didn’t have the chance to. Rookies get into the league early, and sometimes they don’t play right away. It’s the same in college as well, but it’s an opportunity to learn, develop, and really try to earn a spot. I think that’s really important and is something that gets overlooked. I went through a process and four years at a program of really learning and developing within that program. I think that can help a lot of guys, especially in their transition to the NBA. -via HoopsHype / November 26, 2023
