Game of Thrones’ current breakneck pace is gutting its most anticipated reunions

The Verge

Spoilers ahead for Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones’ “Eastwatch” episode came bearing the gift of reunions. It was the latest round of important meet-ups in a season already packed with homecomings, but the power of those encounters is wearing thin.

Anticipation for some of these scenes has been building literally for years. Gendry hasn’t been seen since 2013, when Davos sent him off in a rowboat to escape death by blood sacrifice. And yet, his return to the show is sandwiched in... Читать дальше...

The service, which lets users chat with voice and text, was being used by proponents of Nazi ideology both before and after the attacks in Charlottesville, Virginia. “We will continue to take action against Nazi ideology, and all forms of hate,” the company said in a tweet.

The Verge

You might not have noticed, but over the weekend a little coup took place. On Friday night, in front of a crowd of thousands, an AI bot beat a professional human player at Dota 2 — one of the world’s most popular video games. The human champ, the affable Danil "Dendi" Ishutin, threw in the towel after being killed three times, saying he couldn’t beat the unstoppable bot. “It feels a little bit like human,” said Dendi. “But at the same time, it’s something else.”

The Game of Game of Thrones: season 7, episode 5, Eastwatch

The Verge

This week in Game of Game of Thrones, your Thronesmaster had to Google “knuckle massages” and “carpal-tunnel risk factors.” What I’m saying is, too much is happening too quickly on this show, and I can barely write it all down without injuring myself. So let’s get right to it, and yes, I would love it if you would tweet any and all home remedies for joint swelling to @verge.

Andy Rubin’s Essential is now valued at over a billion dollars without shipping a single phone

The Verge

Essential, the new phone startup from Android founder Andy Rubin, is now a unicorn, according to reports from Bloomberg columnist Tim Culpan over the weekend. If you’re not up to date on the parlance of Silicon Valley, a unicorn is a company that’s valued at over $1 billion dollars, which is no small feat in today’s market. This title is even more impressive, given that Essential has yet to ship a single device to consumers.

Tonight in Yokohama, Japan, Pokémon Go more or less delivered on that promise as thousands of players worked together to catch the notorious legendary pokémon in a baseball stadium.

My favorite game has been invaded by killer AI bots and Elon Musk hype

The Verge

Elon Musk is a hype merchant, and this weekend his Twitter account served up a generous serving of hoopla for the OpenAI bots that were destroying the best Dota 2 players in the world. As a veteran Dota player and inveterate contrarian, I couldn’t let Musk’s exaggeration go by unchallenged. What we saw the OpenAI bots achieve was awe-inspiring for anyone who’s ever dabbled in Dota, but it’s still only scratching the surface of the competitive complexity of this game.

LG’s Graphy app will help you rip off your favorite photographer’s style

The Verge

LG’s trickle of pre-launch news about the upcoming V30 flagship-tier Android smartphone today turns to the new software that will be on board. Chief among the novelties is Graphy, a component of the manual mode in LG’s camera app that will allow users to apply the same “style and mood” of a chosen professional photo to their own. It sounds almost like Prisma, last summer’s popular style transfer app, but LG is doing it in a different manner, applying the photographic settings of the selected image (white balance... Game of Thrones season 7, episode 5, had a massive reveal for fans, but it wasn’t brought to you by dragons, or by Cersei’s insane battle tactics.
