Audio Technica debuts fleet of new wireless Bluetooth headphones

The Verge

Audio-Technica has revealed both a new wireless Bluetooth over-ear headphone model as well as a series of wireless Bluetooth in-ear headphones. Unlike the brand’s other recent reveal — the upmarket ATH-ADX5000 (which comes with its own suitcase!) — all these newly released models are affordably priced, but still have quality-conscious listeners in mind.

The VR dating show makes me want to never date again

The Verge

You know those gimmick-based dating shows about people going on dates naked, or in the dark, or with some other twist? Someone is doing this for virtual reality now, and while that already may not sound great, I promise that it is worse than it sounds. It’s not that Virtually Dating is dumb about VR, or that it sensationalizes it. It’s just a dating show that’s so boring it tarnishes the concept of dating itself.

Korean astronomers saw a distant explosion 600 years ago — and we just found the stars that caused it

The Verge

In March of 1437, Korean astronomers in Seoul saw what they thought was a new, bright star appear in the night sky. Now, nearly 600 years later, astronomers have figured out what those stargazers actually saw: a thermonuclear explosion caused by the interaction of two distant stars. The new research pinpoints the location of those two stars in the sky, solving a mystery that’s plagued astronomers for decades and providing clues about what happens to pairs of stars centuries after they explode.

Eric Schmidt reportedly pressured think tank into firing Google critic

The Verge

Shortly after Google was fined a record €2.4 billion by the EU for manipulating search results, a foundation backed by Google posted a statement praising the penalty. This earned the ire of Eric Schmidt, which led him to pressure the New America Foundation (NAF) into firing the critic and his entire team, reports The New York Times. The NAF has reportedly received more than $21 million from Google, Schmidt, and Schmidt’s family foundation since 1999, the year NAF was founded. Google is still funding New America today. Nintendo’s Fire Emblem Heroes has quietly turned into a big hit on mobile

The Verge

When Kouhei Maeda, a game director at Intelligent Systems, was in the midst of creating Fire Emblem Heroes, he laid out a plan. As the series’ debut on mobile, and a free-to-play title, Heroes needed a steady stream of content updates to keep players coming back. Maeda thought that if the team released a big update every month, that would be sufficient. But as soon as the game launched he realized it wouldn’t be near enough. “When we looked at the feedback we realized that people wanted more,” he explains. Читать дальше...

Robot airbags could help industrial bots play nice with humans

The Verge

Making robots that can work safely alongside humans is an important and unavoidable challenge for the manufacturing industry. If something goes wrong with a robot and it confuses a squishy human body with open air, the result might not just be delayed production, but broken bones and torn flesh. In the most straightforward way possible, robots just don’t know their own strength.

I wish every gaming laptop had Asus’ new 144Hz display

The Verge

Asus just announced the world’s first gaming laptop with a 144Hz display at IFA today. I got a chance to play with the ROG Chimera, and I never want to go back to a normal gaming laptop display ever again. Asus was one of the first to introduce 120Hz displays on its gaming laptops, and now it’s pushing even further for gamers who want smooth performance and frame rates. The 1080p display on this 17.3-inch gaming laptop also has Nvidia’s G-Sync technology for removing screen tearing, and it looks great as a result. Читать дальше...

LG’s V30 will own IFA the way the Galaxy Note once did

The Verge

Back in 2011, in only my second time attending IFA in Berlin — Europe’s answer to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas — I saw Samsung completely overtake the event with the launch of just one product. I was among the first to get their hands on the entirely new Galaxy Note device, which was so hot off the production lines that it didn’t even have clearance to be sold in Germany yet, and all the demo units were plastered with regulatory stickers to that effect. Though we couldn’t have known... Читать дальше...

The Verge

Today at IFA, Acer announced a bunch of computers, including some new additions to its gaming-focused Predator line. Their unveiling was the usual parade of water-cooled rigs, neon lighting, and pumped-up graphics cards, but there was one feature that stood out on the company’s new Predator Orion 9000 PC: a pair of wheels.

Pawbo designed a fancy dog tracker

The Verge

The annual IFA technology conference in Berlin always means lots of gadgets, for both humans and pets. I'm happy for the dogs. And this year, Pawbo, a company owned by Acer, is launching three new pet gadgets: the iPuppyGo, the WagTag, and the Munch. I assume you didn't gather much information from those names, so I'll explain.
