Heat offseason primer: Kyle Lowry trade opportunities, new CBA challenges, and more

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The Miami Heat just had one of the most improbable and memorable playoff runs in NBA history. The eight-seeded team went from being on the brink of elimination in the Play-In Tournament all the way to the NBA Finals. Their quick disposal of the title favorite Milwaukee Bucks is a highlight of their run. Unfortunately for the Heat, their disciplined defense and physicality couldn’t contain the ultra-efficient Denver Nuggets offense. Overall, it was another reminder of head coach Erik Spoelstra’s... Gianluca Pascucci: 'The U.S. is going to have the edge, but it’s not granted anymore'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

After a six-year hiatus, adidas Eurocamp was back in Treviso, Italy, as the only sanctioned NBA pre-draft camp outside of the United States. As HoopsHype has already spoken to Jabari Smith and Bennedict Mathurin at Eurocamp, basketball executive Gianluca Pascucci, who serves as the scouting director for the event, was nice enough to talk about the event, give insight to draft preparation, and more.

76ers will not be pursuing Bradley Beal if he becomes available for trade?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

However, sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity insisted that the Sixers will not be pursuing Bradley Beal and are not interested in him as a long-term building block. The concerns on Philadelphia’s end are all the obvious ones laid out above. Committing $200 million to a player over the next four years under a CBA that is punitive for expensive teams is not a route they’re looking to travel.

Miami Heat expected to be a prominent suitor for Bradley Beal if he hits the trade block

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The Washington Wizards’ new front office leaders and Bradley Beal have a mutual understanding that they intend to work together to find a trade that would send the three-time All-Star guard to a contender if the team elects to reset the organization, league sources tell The Athletic. It is unclear whether the Wizards will ultimately decide upon a rebuild or if they find an acceptable trade, but sources said both sides are working amicably to find the path forward, with the 2023 NBA Draft looming on June 22. Pelicans increasingly exasperated with Zion Williamson?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

I heard this week from one well-placed observer who is convinced that the Pelicans would indeed consider dealing Williamson away if it meant they could draft Henderson, pointing to a rising level of exasperation within the organization regarding Williamson’s ongoing availability issues and overall approach. My read, at this juncture, is that the Pelicans are less inclined to consider trading Brandon Ingram in the same scenario.

Kristaps Porzingis to opt in?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Keith Smith: Something that is picking up more and more buzz: Kristaps Porzingis opting in for $36M with Washington next season. Under the old front office, the assumption was Porzingis would opt out and re-sign on a long-term deal with Wizards. He may take the money now and hit FA in 2024.

USA Basketball officials have reached out to Fred VanVleet

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Of the eight players who have committed to play this summer, such as rising stars Jaren Jackson Jr., Anthony Edwards, Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Halliburton — none have played in a World Cup or Olympics. In recent days, Team USA officials have reached out to former All-Star and past NBA champ Fred VanVleet to gauge his interest, a league source said. VanVleet, a free agent to be, also has not played in a World Cup or Olympics.

League wondering about Zion Williamson's availability in trades

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Brian Windhorst: The Pelicans have had some cursory discussions. From what I’ve been told, there haven’t been any offers made necessarily yet, but it makes you really not take too far of a leap to wonder… The league is certainly wondering if the Pelicans are going to make for the first time truly Zion Williamson available ahead of next week’s draft.

Miami made an offer for Kyrie irving at the trade deadline

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, this year’s Eastern Conference champions would like to ad a third star next to Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. He revealed that Miami made an offer to the Nets for Kyrie Irving before the trade deadline before the star point guard was traded to the Mavericks. “They’re going to explore seeing what the star market is out there,” Charania said on FanDuel TV. “Just to give you a glimpse of what they looked at over the last several months – they made an offer... Dwyane Wade is not buying LeBron James' retirement talk

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

“I looked at that and thought ‘I ain’t buying that’. I know when the season is over and they’re asking [LeBron James] this question in this moment. But also I know, when he gets away, when he goes to Mexico or goes away to the south of France on his Yacht for the summer, he’s gonna look around and say ‘Okay, the King coming back’,” Wade added.

League execs wondering about the future of Bradley Beal

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Bradley Beal re-signed with the Washington Wizards last offseason on a five-year, $251 million and could be traded this offseason as Michael Winger takes over the front office. “Last week, Michael Winger, the new president of the Washington Wizards, said he has been given clearance from ownership to do a complete rebuild,” said Brian Windhorst on Get Up. “That has left everybody in the league wondering what about the future of Bradley Beal.

Nuggets were 'adamantly against' trading for Kyrie Irving in 2017

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Malone has said recently that Connelly approached him around that time indicating they could possibly trade Murray for a certain marquee veteran or veterans. Among those players was Kyrie Irving after he requested a trade from the Cavaliers in the summer of 2017, sources have said. The Nuggets were adamantly against it. They never stopped believing Murray could develop into a star — the perfect point guard next to Jokic.
