Hawks have been trying to convince Raptors to trade Pascal Siakam

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks have been among the league’s most active teams in trade talks, eager to reduce their overload of long-term contracts and address their status as a middle-of-the-pack team mired in tax territory. Trading John Collins is Atlanta’s ongoing top priority, but there has clearly been more interest in DeAndre Hunter and Clint Capela. They’ve also been trying — without success — to convince Toronto to part with Pascal Siakam.

Jazz had strong interest in Kristaps Porzingis had he hit free agency

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Wednesday’s Kristaps Porzingis trade saga ultimately required the Celtics to manufacture two separate deals to acquire the former Wizard. Along the way I heard from multiple rival teams that were convinced Porziņģis, had he not landed with the Celtics, was poised to receive strong free agent interest from Utah had he elected to decline his $36 million player option for next season before Wednesday’s midnight deadline.

Paolo Banchero commits to play for Team USA at upcoming World Cup

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Add the NBA’s reigning Rookie of the Year to the list of commitments for Team USA this summer. Paolo Banchero, the No. 1 pick from the 2022 NBA Draft, is the eleventh American pro to commit for the FIBA World Cup in the Philippines, league sources told The Athletic. And it’s a bit of a coup for the Americans, as Banchero, who was born in the U.S. but has an Italian passport, had previously said he would play for Team Italy this summer.

Steve Kerr on Chris Paul trade: We needed a shift

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The Warriors don’t have to say the words. But after Friday’s news conference to introduce Podziemski and Jackson-Davis, and days before anybody with the team is allowed to address the Chris Paul acquisition, Kerr explained the general terms of the Warriors’ offseason objective. “We’re going to be a lot different,” Steve Kerr told me. “The last thing I’m going to do is say anything about a team that just won a championship a year ago and then fought through a difficult season. Made a helluva run at the end of this year. Читать дальше...

Damian Lillard's agent on 'Miami' song during IG Live: 'Just a coincidence'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

When Portland star Damian Lillard was seen smiling and laughing to the sounds of Will Smith’s famous song, “Miami” on Instagram Live on Friday in a 45-second clip of captured video that went viral, it was only natural to wonder if he was sending some sort of message to the Trail Blazers about his possible desire to be traded to the Miami Heat. But his agent, Aaron Goodwin, chose to clarify and contextualize the scene with The Athletic on Friday night. As Goodwin shared, Lillard is currently on... Читать дальше...

Kevin Durant jumps into Twitter Space convo titled 'Kevin Durant is not top 5'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Durant jumped into a Twitter Spaces conversation. Twitter Spaces is a forum through Twitter that allows users to host, join and participate in live audio-only talk shows. This particular Twitter Spaces conversation was hosted by online personality “LegendOfWinning,” and the conversation was titled “Kevin Durant is not top 5.” To the surprise of some — but not all — Durant himself jumped in and argued with the speakers. He appeared to join in after about 40 minutes. Then he told off the hosts for the way they view the game. Читать дальше...

Paul George on the block?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

NBA journalist Howard Beck thinks Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George is “certainly available” this offseason. “They’re not trying to give him away, but they are trying to pivot, and they do have, I think, a franchise-wide frustration with the way that this era has gone,” Beck said on Friday’s episode of the FnA podcast with Kevin Figgers and Adam Auslund.

Brad Stevens on losing Marcus Smart: 'It was something we felt like we had to do'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

“As heart wrenching as it was to part with Marcus, it was something we felt like we had to do,” Stevens said. “I said this at the start of the summer,” he explained. “I thought we needed to balance our roster and looked at the best ways to do that. And that meant that we were likely going to lose a really, really, really good player.”

Warriors exec on Brandin Podziemski: He's got some Jalen Brunson in him

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Assistant general manager Larry Harris joined me and Monte Poole on the latest Dubs Talk podcast and gave two names he believes Podziemski resembles, while trying to ease unfair expectations. “I don’t want the fans to lose their minds a little bit when I say this,” Harris began, “but … he rebounds, he’s smart and he can score. He’s got a little bit of some Jalen Brunson in him, in the sense that he knows how to kind of worm his way into the lane and he’s strong enough to take contact.”
