Tony Parker, who is now retired, played 17 seasons for the Spurs. He won NBA titles with the team in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014, so knows the franchise inside out. He told the AP in a phone interview it will be the “perfect place” for Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft. “I know he wanted to go to San Antonio, and so it feels like it was destiny, with the French connection we built over the years,” Parker said. “And he is going to keep the legacy going. The Sacramento Kings are heading into the offseason looking to build off their successful 2022-23 campaign. They entered last night’s draft with the 24th overall selection, which they could’ve used to add another building block toward their future. Instead, they traded the pick and Richaun Holmes to the Dallas Mavericks for nothing. While the deal may look bad from a value proposition, the Kings clearly prioritized getting off Holmes and the remaining two years, $26.7 million left on his deal.

The Summer League is almost back. The traditional NBA showcase for young players and aspiring free agents returns to Sacramento (July 3-5), Salt Lake City (July 3-6) and Las Vegas (July 7-17). Zach LaVine’s representatives would be against a deal to the Knicks, the Daily News has learned. The Bulls are reportedly gauging interest in the All-Star guard, which prompted speculation that the Knicks — who are strapped with future draft assets — would get involved. But a source said the LaVine camp isn’t interested in dealing with the Knicks, who have a reputation around the league of favoring clients of CAA, the agency that employed Leon Rose before his move to the Knicks front office.

San Antonio registered interest in Jordan Poole, league sources told Yahoo Sports, although the Spurs never made a significant offer. There were also conversations between Golden State and Boston, sources said, about sending Poole to the Celtics, before Boston went forward and traded Marcus Smart in the three-team trade with the Grizzlies that brought Kristaps Porziņģis to the TD Garden.

I’m told a timeline likely extends now between here this point tonight and the start of free agency, to see what Portland is able to do. If they are unable to do something meaningful to improve the team, Damian Lillard has said behind the scenes he doesn’t want to do a rebuild with young guys, he wants to be on a more veteran-laden team. For now, it’s a good night in Portland, Scoot Henderson was top priority for the Blazers.

Make no mistake, this move doesn’t happen without Curry’s blessing and Paul’s acquiescence. Both are big enough stars to have killed this move if they wanted to. But team sources say Stephen Curry and Chris Paul are excited about their union, and that’s assuredly because they had a meeting of minds. The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly under a mandate from ownership to get under the luxury tax and have been active in trade talks.
