Hull FC • Re: Shopping List 2023

Rugby League Supporters Association Online

Looking at that list of players out of contract the number I’d keep doesn’t even hit double figures. Even one or two of those have to have big seasons and play more games than they miss to earn a new deal.

I don’t think anything other than a big change & clear out in the squad at the end of this season will make a difference.

AP & TS have to be ruthless and not sentimental with retentions this year.

I know McNamara tends to cop a lot of criticism and whilst I'd agree he won't likely be a top class player he is, as has been shown our best option at 6 (without moving Hoy) until Trueman is fit. He may not set the world on fire but he is steady and reliable, in fairness to the lad he is actually prepared to make a tackle, something that was in very short supply against Salford.

On that basis Chris may as well play Houghton there

Watson didn’t really moan about the pitch as such, he moaned that the game shouldn’t be postponed if it wasn’t playable and it should be either moved elsewhere or forfeited. Once it was ok’d they got on with it and didn’t slag it off afterwards. Now McNamara, thats another matter….

Wakefield Trinity • Club update from JM

It’s another case of clarity… from what I read (understand would be impossible as yet) if you are grade A you are in… until there are a minimum of 12 grade A clubs,, SL will be filled out with the top scoring Grade B clubs (regardless of where they finish in the league) … when there are 12 grade A … any additional or new grade A will be added to expand the league…

I assume this applies to all teams within the club…

I agree. But the version of Widdop that we have seen in Super League has been mediocre, to say the least - AND he's been mediocre on some very decent wages.

I think since his arrival in England, Widdop has had a few personal issues regarding his family and not seeing the kids.
I know he’s a professional player but things like this don’t help plus recurring shoulder injuries.

The Virtual Terrace • Salford chairman calls for NFL style draft in super league

Rugby League Supporters Association Online

What a moronic idea.

I’m sorry Jack Welsby, I know we have nurtured you for the past 10 years but off you pop to Salford on peanuts. Enjoy!

It works in America but absolutely will not work in SL. There is no way the teams that regularly produce quality youngsters should be held back by those that don’t. It’s just like the salary cap. Hold back those that can to help those that can’t

I'm not on the Mikey Lewis hype train just yet. The guy seems to be quite injury prone and still hasn't produced a consistent run of form yet, it would be a big gamble to throw marquee money at him at the moment. Although, there's a real dearth of halves in the game at the moment, so any half decent halfback will probably cost more than he should.

Hull FC • Re: On to Saints

I understand TS had to defend or explain reasons for the latest hammering. However these are professional rugby players majority of which are on very good wages.
Yes, the defensive structure has been changed but rugby is such a simple game.
Think most of us agree on here we have the thickest players in SL but to not be able to understand how to tackle an opponent when it’s part of the weekly training programme.

Salford only had 19 fit players , so the team picked itself. Yet they can attack and defend. Читать дальше...

Looking at my imposter's posts I have narrowed it down. They use good grammar and good spelling so that rules out posters from Wigan, Warrington and Leeds.

I would hazard a guess it is a Salford fan, still upset that St Helens have denied them a super league grand final win.

I think with Leigh we just only need to run them up the middle.
They’ll need to slide the edges in to try and stop our middle go forward, and force them thin at the edges. Not specifically Charnley.

Yeah if we stay up that midfield still needs work imo, we still lack a good creative 10 who has a few goals in him. In fact if we go down it’ll need work as Mckennie will return to Juve! But that’s a discussion for another day heaven forbid

Right back area still hasn’t been sorted has it, Rasmus doesn’t look up to it at PL level but I suppose there’s been many a foreign player that’s had a much better 2nd season.

If Sinesterra fit I might be tempted with Gnonto at 10.

If Johnson doesn’t make the bench then I think it tells us that he ie well down the pecking order especially if Bentley does feature at hooker at some point which is likely to give Leeming an extra week. I think it is a solid policy to not rush players back from injury and play them from the bench first.

If we are chading a centre i assume it would be Gildart, but i hope not and hope Wrench is our starting centre next year.

Agree with that last part I’d prefer Wrench over Gildart.
