Good news!

Excellent news and support from the clubs fans which in all honesty is likely to be majority of what would be classed as hard core fans. Hopefully the turnaround of players can start to show the clubs supporters be it fans or commercial sponsors some form of repayment for the efforts.

Wigan Warriors • Safer Rugby League from 2024

I believe that there is already a lot kickback from the community side of the game but unfortunately this will have zero impact. Young kids play the sport because of the physicality of the game. As I said previously these changes may just be the thin end of the wedge and further changes will dilute the game to tick and pass if we are not careful. Nothing wrong with tick and pass but it isn’t a long term spectator sport.

Not sure that if SL did break away they would rescind the below the armpit tackling. Читать дальше...

Sounds like he is disillusioned with RL.

When I first saw him play I thought he had a great future in the game.

Lots of natural talent, but he never developed his physique that was necessary for a Super League forward. Whether that was because he wasn`t prepared to do the heavy weights in the gym or he has a natural metabolism that won`t acquire any extra weight as a young man?

Most people fill out as they age, so he could still make it, and a couple... Читать дальше...

Wakefield Trinity • Re: Death of rugby league part 2

Rugby League Supporters Association Online

Something that hasn't been mentioned here is the messing around they're doing with rules changes for the junior game, which I think could be more damaging to the game in the long run.

Where they'll be playing touch rugby till they're 10, I know I wouldn't have started playing for Eastmoor if that was the case when I was 7 and just carried on playing union but it was the amount of times you got the ball, made tackles and was just generally more physical that made it like RU but on steroids. What's going on with our shirts? Cutting it a bit fine if they want to sell any as christmas presents aren't they?

It'll be released on Tuesday of next week. Pre-orders available the same day and hopefully it'll be in store to buy on 18/12/23. The club are cutting it very close for meeting the Christmas deadline. Sounding like it is out of their hands.

Warrington Wolves • Recruitment rumours and links

Rugby League Supporters Association Online

You could just change the name of this thread to duckie rumours and links?

Back on track I don't think we will be making any more signings for next season but feel we should be pretty happy with the squad and the coach we have appointed. If this squad want to win as badly as Burgess will then next season should be a lot more enjoyable than recent ones have been.

The Virtual Terrace • Wellens

Wellens was a moaner as a player and nowts changed…he moaned about this to cover up the fact that he isn’t a good coach and has taken Sts backwards…they put all their eggs in one basket with the WCC in aus and the drive for 5 came unstuck with a slow puncture all season and a blowout in france

The main problem was the lack of any entertainment or game continuity caused by the refs penalising defending teams constantly.

None of the teams did it in the games that I saw, but if the Super League games are refereed in the same manner, then instead of attempting to set-up and score tries, games will be won by the clubs who takes every chance to kick penalty goals, there will be so many opportunities.

It was just like watch tag rugby, except that in tag rugby... Читать дальше...

My worry is that after these changes are enacted and the number of head injuries do not come down what comes next? Very worrying times. I was chatting to a guy about this a few weeks ago and I predicted that the game as we know it will be gone within the next 15 years.
I’m with you in that more injuries could occur due to lower tackling.

If all of this goes through unchallenged, we won't last even 15 years as a professional sport.

That has to be included in the rules for me. If they are small, the defender needs to adapt. If they duck, it's on the attacker.

This is my biggest issue with the rules. There is little to no responsibility on the attacker to look after themselves (if they are going to follow the Union model). It’s all on the defender.

I watched a couple of games in the Union World Cup (all the paint in the house had dried) and there were 2 straight red cards in games... Читать дальше...

Leeds Rhinos • 2024 Rule Changes

Rugby League Supporters Association Online

The video with JJB says initial contact must be below the armpit, the text in the article on the RFL website says any contact above the armpit will be penalised.
I share many of the concerns already posted, but I'm not sure how it is going to be interpreted and will make it really hard to officiate, and confusing to watch.

Had a crack at guessing the salary cap spend across the squad. Might be way off (would welcome any feedback) but if its anywhere close you can see how it's possible to fit in the big hitters of Field, French, Smith and Thompson when utilising the three marquee spots.

Miski 75k
Keighran 75k
Wardle 100k
Marshall 100k
French 150k on marquee

That is true but it doesn’t mean it’s the better product as it’s not and plenty of people inside Rugby Union are panning the current product.

Ackers has solved our 9 issue for the next couple of seasons hopefully, but we still have question marks over where / if O’Connor and Johnson fit in.

Clearly our back row is overstocked and in terms of quality I think two of Gannon Martin and McDonnell would be my pick. There will be some competition this year for who is retained going forward.

Hudson is a complete wildcard, but his pedigree is good and if he responds to the Leeds environment he could be the extra prop we need.

In regards to insurance, couldnt the RFL used the same company that covers RL in any otger market? It seems to be just the English that are making such dramatic changes.

I know very little about insurance, and how it works on an international market, but it sounds like a cop-out to me.

Martin or McDonnell were our best. Then Bentley and Gannon.

Walters looked best at prop but thats not where he wants to play and we have an abundance of Backrowers. That led to the lack of game time and contract issues.

I’m guessing you mean the training centre and not the West Stand

I’m not sure but I think a great place for a Wakefield Trinity Training Centre of Excellence would probably be somewhere like Westgate Redoubts old ground at the back of Snapethorpe school. There’s room to put an indoor centre and there’s a couple of training pitches that a decent groundsman could bring up to standard.

Agree, he's only played 7 games for Hull KR last season, even taking into account he had a wrist injury he was recovering from to start the season, I bet he was looking for more game time than that. He got twice that almost with us in 2022. I'm not sure if they've strengthened where he plays but I know Kennedy's not there in front of him anymore, so maybe he'll be in their 17 more regularly next season.
