Leeds Rhinos • Transfer Talk / Rumour thread V4

Personally I'm a McDonnell fanboy so he'd be the first SR in my team. He just lacks a little bit of size (hence I guess Wigan letting him go). But he has a great attitude and his skill level is fantastic at times. Skill is an underrated aspect: little offloads, kicks, a good pass, safe hands makes all the difference at elite level. I expect us to be more skilful next season compared to last.

Going to be really interesting to see how the young players perform through pre-season. Читать дальше...

With all these new regulations about the number of minutes and games players make play in. Perhaps this will affect who we will be loaning to Trinity in the DR arrangement.
Maybe fewer forwards and more backs?

He definitely seemed to have something about him, I tipped him to be the next to break through but it seems it wasn't to be. He'll go well in the championship.

Re Worries : Mine are mainly that Drinkwater will continue where he left off - that being having 3/4 season of having very little positive impact on games. Another worry is the fragility of the players confidence/egos when under duress.

Re: fullback. Leeds won the title in 2017 with Jack Walker at full back, Wigan won in 2016 with Dan Sarginson. I don't think Dufty will be the reason we lose a GF if we get there but he may be the reason we win one.

Centres - Thornley, Croft, Pratt, Law.

Pratt looks promising with York last season but unsure on Law.

4 x isn’t too bad imo. I suppose Kay or Franco or even Griffin could step in for the odd game.

Full back we only have one in Max.

If we were to sign a centre it would have to be quality enough to displace Croft to be worth while.

We certainly are a bit shallow on depth in a couple of positions in full back, prop, halves and maybe even back row. Читать дальше...

It can't hurt to have the tickets on sale as early as possible and I think its perfectly justified to question why it takes so long now we know the game is on.

Hardly worth its own thread but I thought this comment from Sam Burgess in a recent interview was quite funny:

“I won’t give you all of the grand plans because quite frankly, I don’t have one – that’s just me being honest.”

I remember Tom Burgess talking about the appointment during the Tonga series and he said Sam had applied for the job and his response when he got it was ‘bloody hell, I better take it now’ as though he was surprised and had applied for the interview experience. Читать дальше...

Leeds Rhinos • 2024 Rule Changes

Rugby League Supporters Association Online

I suspect if you polled the players and supporters, an overwhelming majority would be against these significant rule changes on top of others in recent years which have been frustrating.

What is the point in running "trial" games under these new rules, which I can confirm were disastrous, if the decision had clearly already been made? Where is the consultation? Totally agree with those posting on the risks of head injury in D, which in my view outweighs the now small risk of head high tackling. Читать дальше...

Also, despite asking several times, I've still not heard a coherent explanation as to why the same inevitability is not set to befall boxing, MMA etc. Again, I'd be genuinely interested to know how they are managing to resist when we supposedly can't.

I'd guess the key reason is boxers and MMA fighters are self employed and responsible for their own welfare

What's the big deal? Everyone knows when it is being played and where. Its at the DW. If they had started to sell tickets now then people would've moaned its an unecessary expense in the lead up to Christmas. Sell them in Feb when people have been paid again in January and recovered from Christmas.

You can still look forward to a game without an actual ticket. I think everyone that wants to go will be able to get a ticket and I would be surprised if it was a complete sell out. Читать дальше...

can anyone explain to me how sports like boxing and MMA are able to operate?
Their objective is to actively attack the head (and other parts of the body) and cause an opponent injury.

Do the participants have to sign some kind of waiver?

What really bothers me us that all this is on the back of a four game/week trial. Seems a very short period in which to arrive at such sweeping conclusions. Were the players and coaches who took part consulted? Were the fans? The big worry for me is that these recommendations change the game so profoundly that it completely loses it's appeal to fans and broadcasters. It feels like this could hasten the sports demise rather than safeguard it's longevity.

Leigh Leopards • Re: Matt Moylan is a Leopard

Why Adrian Lam signed Matt Moylan to take Leigh Leopards ‘to the next level’

REJUVENATED coach Adrian Lam is ready to make his third pre-season at Leigh the most effective yet as he prepares to prove the doubters wrong by sharpening the Leopards’ claws even further.

The 53-year-old is back on a chilly training ground after returning from Australia, where he had a short sunshine break after assisting Kangaroos chief Mal Meninga at the Pacific Championship.

It was something of a busman’s holiday for Lam... Читать дальше...
